Howdy all
I'm interested in getting a aftermarket NAV for my 05 MDX so wanted to get some recommendations/pics from fellow owners who've gone down the aftermarket track.
Thanks

I have had a Garmin 176c for the past 3 years. I chose this model because it is a good backup for the boat and also is good for the road. In fact I have just ordered a larger chip so that I can keep more information stored in it. I am working to setup three trips that we will be taking in the next 3 months. I set up all of the trips using the computer software and then download to the computer.
One nice thing about a portable unit is that it can also be used in a rental vehicle. One of these trips will be a flying trip with rental car the other end.
There are newer units out now that are better than the one I have. The Garmin Road Pilot is a good unit.
Whatever you get be sure that it has good computer software. You can get a lot of value using the computer to plan your trips. You can do many potential scenarios and then choose the one that you like best. The software that came with my unit is gives a much better product than maps.com or other on line programs. Be sure that the software gives printer support.
Garmin is not the only one making these GPS units. However, I think that they have been in the GPS/navigation business for 17 years and are generally considered the best.
Good luck.

Hey Ssingh,
I went with Pioneer AVIC N2 with rear-view camera. It's DVD base nav system with XM navTraffic able (about $4 more a month). It can be pain to play CD/DVD and nav at the same time because if one was to trail off from the route that's in the memory, the nav dvd needs to be back in the unit in order for it to reroute. I'm planning to hook up ipod into the unit or buy second cd player.
The unit works well. Nav function is good but not the best - when I tried out clarion NICE unit, it gave better instruction for the junction area. Overall it is good unit and works well and I love the flip out monitor. I have taken some pictures two weeks ago and haven't had chance to post yet.

It looks exactly like it looks like in the advertisements on the Garmin site.
The 276c that Dick has is the latest model of the one I have. It is a very good model. Also that $760.00 is a very good price. It is about $795 at www.boafix.com and they are usually the cheapest.

I've used a Garmin 2610 sitting on my dash since January 2004.
The only complaint is, the Garmin 2610 (I heard the newer models work a little better) loses its GPS tracking in Manhattan and when I go in a tunnel or the lower roadway of a bridge. Other than that, this things works as well as the Navigation in our 2004 Sienna (which doesn't let you change destinations while your driving) and about as good as the Acura/Honda Navigation systems (2004 Acura TL and my friend's 2006 Honda Pilot).
However, I would only recommend Garmin as the aftermarket navigation unit. Their software seems to be better IMHO than the others.
Also getting models made for cars works better than the portable models.
I'll try to take a picture of mine and post it later. |

i use this model for our aussie apec MDX...
this is one of the largest screen i could find among with other aftermarket GPS...
this one even warns me if there's a redlight or speed camera that was been stored in the data already ( and they can be updated via USB)
however the only problem i had was that i needed to drill 3 tiny wholes right abouve the centre ac vent... which felt hurt while drilling... |

One of the nice things about the Garmin's is that they come with a "bean bag" type of mount that will sit on the dash. However, you have to watch Garmin because they have just started a policy of "price fixing" on some (all?) of their models. They get angry at retailers who sell below their suggested retail price.
