| okay, I have a question for everyone. I have a 2002 MDX w/Nav. If I change out the stereo will it affect the way the Nav works? You know when it speaks out the directions as you drive? |

The stereo and navigation have nothing to do with each other.

that's what I'm hoping! but, the reason I ask is that when the NAV system is giving me voice directions. It seems to for just a second cut out the sound to the front speakers as it "calls" out the directions. How does this occur? Is it through something in the wiring harness or some other device? |

Actually they do.. That is the only reason I still haven't change out the HU. There are some work around by adding a aux speaker http://www.alpine-europe.com/conten...or-Car-Navi.htm for the sole purposed of when the Navi announces turns, etc. Also I still haven't found a real good solution for retention of the steering controls.
But here is a thread which touched on a possible solution when you lose the voice. http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...ight=navi+voice |

As Warzau indicated, you will lose the ability to have the audible directions if you switch to an aftermarket head unit. Some installers can make the steering wheel controls work with an aftermarket HU, but it's hit-or-miss from what I've read. Obviously, you can go with the optional external powered speaker, but I'm not sure how that would sound. And don't forget the HF link for a Bluetooth phone also goes through that as well as OnStar. |

Not an issue for him. 2002 doesn't have those features.
The other thing to consider is even with an external speaker you run the risk of not hearing directions depending on how loud you have the new HU. You obviously will lose the mute feature. |

| hhmmm... darn it. I wish there were a way to keep the voice directions when replacing the HU. that way I could add a double din touch screen in addition to the Nav screen. You know for those times when you're on a long drive and the kids are watching something... |
