I'm going to Lake Tahoe in May for a wedding. What's there to do there in May? Can anybody recommend a nice inexpensive place to stay at? I think the wedding is at the south end of the lake. So, I want to stay in that area. Thanks.

You'll have a great time. Harrah's and Harvey's casinos (both owned by Harrahs) right at the state line plus several others. Gondola ride to the top of the mountain ($40/person but great view!), dining on the lake or in the hotel towers. Tahoe Bell (I think that's the name) paddle-wheeler for dining on the lake and, if it warms up enough, water sports on the lake. Emerald Bay, on the Calif side, for a view of a private estate now a park for great hiking and pik-nik. Scenery is great, too. Need I say more? Just bring, of course, lotsa MONEY!

We've had about 8 feet of snow in the past week in Tahoe. There's still going to be great skiing in May if you ski. South Lake has Heavenly and Kirkwood as options. North Lake Tahoe has Squaw and Alpine Meadows as the two options with the latest closing dates. We'll definitely be skiing on Memorial day unless the weather changes dramatically.

South Lake has lots of hotel options and many have good, cheap deals. Especially in May which is sort of between seasons. You might check out slidingonthecheap.com for deals and also look on the web. I've heard nice things about the Embassy Suites there.

There's great golf, fantastic hiking and mountain biking, skiing/snowboarding and lots of other outdoor activities in and around South Lake.
