Guys/Gals,
I have read almost every post out there about the '03 NAV modification to allow the factory RES DVD to play on it. While I understand it clearly I was wondering does this also let the NAV show what is playing on the AUX port as well?

EDIT: It does also provide the AUX display to the NAV unit.

Thanks,

P.S. Thank you GeorgeB for your diagram. It helped a lot. Anyone else have any other diagrams?

I don't know for sure if you can get the stock RES to display on the NAV without getting a NAV converter (e.g. SAMs unit or similar) that will convert the RCA output to RGB.

dj-mdx2,
As I understand it, the backup camera module is the converter. So there is not need for the SAMS unit. Is this not correct?

I have read many posts on how the module does the conversion for the DVD.

Ah, I think I get what you're saying. You essentially want to hook up the RES/AUX after the video is converted to the backup camera to take advantage of some sort of built-in converter. Unfortunately, I don't know the schematics of 03s. The crucial point is what format does the native converter output to? And you're right, you have to splice in or add a splitter at that point.

interesting..
so are we able to view what is coming through the AUX on the nav without a nav converter??

mine is 05 by the way.

Found another users diagram. Still not sure if this will also switch the DVD and AUX to the NAVI screen. From the diagram of the back of the DVD it looks like the AUX port 3 (B1-8) is there. Not sure if it is connected to what we call the AUX port (3rd row seat inputs) though. Anyone know if this is connected? I will check mine tonight.
Thanks nhatman!

Another diagram of the back of the nav unit in pdf format... Thanks TIM!

Nav unit diagram

On 'connector C' port 5 is what I believe is the BLK/GRN backup sensor wire.

On 'connector D' for '03 model shows that that camera is in seperate RGB at this point into the NAV unit but there is a CAM C (pin 15) which probably is the SYNC.

Also I am not sure if D2 and D10 are the composite from the backup camera. Anyone else know? If it is then I should be able to pu the SPDT relay here and not have to run it all the way from the back by the camera control unit.

Another thing is where is the camera's composit connected to? I thought it was only connected to the camera control module. If so then what is D2 and D10 for?

Found the rear camera pinout diagram which shows that D2 and D10 are for the camera module bus. Also it shows the red/blue wire B5 where the camera video + goes directly into the camera module. :( This means that I will have to run the wiring into the back or I could cut the red/blue and run them up to the back of the nav unit and put the relay there since there are no other wires to put back there unless I want to keep the same ground point (good for video).

I know that you can view what is comming out of the DVD player but I am not sure if that is where the AUX ports (3rd row seat) are also being input.

So yes we can view DVD without purchasing another converter (backup camera module is an RGB converter) but I am not sure about AUX.

thank you for your reply
can this be done easily?

it'll be really help ful!
thanks in advance!

I am planning on doing this mod this Friday and I will be making a nice DIY article for it. There are some drawbacks though as stated by nhatman.

One of which is that the NAV unit goes into standby mode when you trick the NAV display into showing the new altered CAM/DVD input. Because of this when you switch back to the NAVIGATION computer unit it may take a few minutes to reconnect to the satilites and calculate your position.

I did confirm that the AUX input on the 3rd row seat is put into the DVD player B1-B8 on the DVD player diagram. Which means that if you take the DVD player output A9 and connect it to the NAV display(via camera controller conversion modification) it will also show whatever is in the AUX port when you switch your radio headunit to the AUX port.

Note with this method you will only get audio for DVD and AUX port out of your speakers when you have the front audio tuner/headunit turned to the DVD or AUX inputs. Otherwise the only audio will be for the RES wireless headphones.

This is exactly how my install was done. The installer ran the wiring to the back to keep the same ground point. But he also ended up putting a video amp with variable output up front to get rid of some lines that showed without it. I have an '04. He said in years prior to '04 they didn't need to use the amp. So he felt Acura changed something in the '04. But the results are great. I've had it for about 18 months and it works well.

I can also confirm that the above statement is a fact.

Justasktony made this great walkthrough with many pictures of the mod. I dont think we need another DIY article other than this one.
