Hi,
I am interested putting a HID KIT on my 06 MDX. Since the MDX 06 model came with a projected headlight (which by the way, looks cool) which HID KIT would be best suited for the 06 MDX.
Some where in between 4100K to 4300K is the actual color of daylight (pure white) and the best so far is Philips/OSRAM bulbs. Now I am looking for something either 4300K or 5000k perhaps 6000K. I have seen some pictures for the MDX model only describing the K but did not colaborate which brand. Also, there have been some forum describing that 6000k is good but no picture.
I have read one forum describing for the newer model of 06 MDX, 4300 is actually the best for the new headlight projector.
Any ideas, links, pictures, etc.?
The picture below MDX projector looks very nice, what is the K temperature and what brand? Any clue... |

Yeah, I'd like to know too...
I often wondered why Acura didn't install HID's into the MDX... Those lights look damn good...
Where do you go about gettign these bulbs, and how much does it cost to have them installed? Will the melt the factory housing?
I know that last question sounds stupid, but my fog light bulbs (factory) got so hot, they melted the shroud around the bulb 92003 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer), and they were rolling around freely in my light housing. It's bad when the manufacturer's specs don't hold up to the installed equipment; so; God only knows how well the factory housing will hold up against an aftermarket bulb... |

I got my conversion from Tim, update my 02 to 04 and up headlights
and got my HID kit from Xenon Depot. Got the 4300K kit. http://www.xenondepot.com/ |

Do you guys install these kits yourself, or did the local Acura dealership put them on for you?
I read that stuf on the site about changing out the wiring harness; doesn't sound like something I want to jack-around with...
Is there a plug & play solution, like a bulb swap? |
|
|
| Warzau |
| Very easy, well if you have the halogen projector, extremly easy, The Xenon Depot is a true plug and play unlike that other one in the messed up GB thread. |

| I was inform by the dealership to wait for the 2007 MDX model. Rumors say that the new model will have the HID system and might use the 07 HID on a 06 models. |

I doubt the new headlights would fit especially if they do a radical redesign on the front end. Plus Acura would charge an arm and a leg for it!! Just get a kit from XenonDepot and you will be happy.
BigHersh,
The install on these is very straightforward. The hardest part is finding a place for, and securing, the ballasts.
BTW, HIDs are a system and not simply a bulb swap. |

Okay, which one should I get...
4300K
6000K
4300K is bright white and somewhere I read in this forum when you get closer there will be a faint bluish/purpulish output.
Whereas the 6000K Philips Ultinon bulbs provide a more bluish/purpulish output, however less light...
What does everyone have? Could you post a picture, pls. |

If you want the most output, get the 4100/4300k bulbs. In order to get the highest "K" value, the inside of the bulb is coated with a blue dye, which cuts total light output. More light=4300K/More rice= 5000K or higher.
I converted to a PolarIon kit (H11 bulb), and couldn't be more pleased. Headlight output (4300K bulbs) is tremendous. Because I have the projector lenses, aiming was unchanged. You have to specify the H11 bulb.
BTW-
The HID bulb actually runs cooler that conventional filament style bulbs. Housing/harness overheating is not a problem. HID bulbs operate at 35 watts vs 55 watts for conventional bulbs. |

| I think by looking at the picture at the very top is using Philips 4100/4300K. Base on manufactured bulb some may and may not have coating. Philips on the other hand does not have coating its actually producing white output 4100/4300K, its the type of projector housing actually producing the slight bluish/purpulish look and feel. |

Now I'm looking at other picture and it might be the Philips 5000K or 6000K Ultinon...
Any ideas anyone what bulb is being used at the very top and temperature? |

Seems like that picture might be aftermarket white halogen bulbs (i.e., Silverstars or Hoens), and not HID's. I remember seeing that pic before, and he's got the matching fogs which surely aren't HIDs.
Edit: incorrect - they are HIDs per my later post
Color temp is a matter of personal preference - with either 4300 or 6000k the light output will be so much better than stock that you'll surely be pleased. My only advice is to avoid Visionbulbs like the plague..... |

It's hard to tell from a straight on pic what it is. Besides, it's the amount of the light on the road that counts.
FYI, almost all OEM hid systems use 4x00K bulbs. A couple of applications use the 5000K. The projector's cutoff and lens is what causes the blueish flicker you see. I would go with 4x00K since it puts the most light on the road and causes less eye fatigue.
Good luck with your decision. |

I was looking around for info on another topic, and found your man. Per his post, the lows are HIDs at 6500K. No mention of where they came from.

Hello,
I just bought the HID Kit from McCulloch for my Acura MDX 2006 and
I could install within 2 hours as per the instruction by Jaffir and other threads. But I am getting black round/square shade in the middle. I have attached the picture. Please Clarify |

| Most likely it is the hole in the shield on the MDX projector. Not much you can do about that except take apart the headlight. The hole is there to help illuminate road signs, etc. BTW, your picture isn't showing up... |

| Buddy, could you kindly repost your picture so we can help. |

| It's the shield. That's normal. |

| THanks Phins2rt. If it is normal that means all the HID projector in 2006 MDX looks like this. Can I do any adjustment ? Because this is not the case when I used the halogeon bulbs |

You should see it with the halogens as well, although it is not as pronounced. The xenons are outputting 2.5 times the light so you see the "UFOs" easier.
Here's a thread that shows the halogen cutoff...

Dear Sir,
I have open the new thread for this. Because I am not concerned about the extra rectangular box on the top. A big black hole which hide almost 50% of the bulb view infront as a dark ghost on both sides. I believe that it is some thing problem with the bulb. |

| What's up guys, Just wanted to help you out on this issue your having with the black hole on your cut off when you changed from halogen to HID. I Had the same issue and realized that its not the sheild in the projector dont even touch it otherwise you'll really be screwed. I have an 05 MDX which I purchased an after market kit for and had the same issue with the black hole or shadow showing. THis is caused because of the incorrect bulb size. YOu have to be carfule because I bought and H11 kit from some website and the bulbs that were fitted on the H11 housing was a 9006 bulb so I sold that kit and purchased another one from a different website and little do you know I got a perfect cut off no shadow. I Mean you could really see the difference in the two bulb sizes from the first kit I had and the second one I bought. You can actually see how clean cut your cut off should be at http://www.xenondepot.com/pgamdx.php |

|
|
| vladdmd |
| if so, would it be wise to get them off of ebay? |
