A/C Compressor Noise - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have a 2001 Acura MDX with 61,000. The A/C compressor makes a whining noise when it clicks on. If the A/C is not on then it is quiet, however when the A/C clicks on the whine starts. It almost sounds like a bad belt. However, the belt is in good shape.

Could this be the compressor or the A/C clutch? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have the same problem with my 2001 MDX Touring, I took it to the dealer, they said the is nothing wrong with it. They said when the SUV gets up in age, that is the way the compressor will sound. I thought that was a bunch of bs from the dealer. I hate the sound.

Did you guys get the timing belt TSB done? ? http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...ighlight=pulley

Thanks for the help. Just for kicks I sprayed WD-40 on the A/C belt and it quieted it down for about 1 minute. Then it started making the noise again. I inspected the belt and it is in great shape. Is it common for the belts to loosen. Does anyone know how I can tighten the belt?

Also, Thanks for the recall notice about the timing belt. I will call them this morning and schedule an appointment!

Could be bearings in the compressor getting loud. As far as spraying things on the belt, I would avoid WD40, use an actual belt dressing if you think it is slipping.

I took my '01 to the dealer ship for the same thing. They changed my belt tensioner, and the problem is fixed. Atleast for now?
Good luck!

Just because a belt looks good does not mean that it is not going to be noise. WD-40 is not only worthless for this purpose, it probably could cause more problems.

You might try best dressing. May or may not work. I really think you need to replace the belt.

The person who fixed it is a mom and pop business. He worked at the cerficited honda/acura dealership and then retired and has a shop of his own. I think he worked with the dealership for 20 years or so.
