Just searching through past threads I have noticed that upgrading the speakers gives you the biggest bang for the buck. However, most of these threads are about 2004 and older MDX's. I went to sounddomain and they dont have a speaker wire kit available for the '05-'06 MDX. I checked Crutchfield and they have "not researched the MDX" when trying to match a pair of speakers, so I'm not sure what aftermarket speakers to go with. I have the Touring w/ RES.
I am looking to upgrade the 4 doors first then the sub.
Have things changed w/ the 2005-06 stereo? Can you just pop off the grills as with pre-2005 MDX's

The 06 stereo system has not changed from the 05. There is no "wiring kit"; there are adapters that plug into the factory sockets, and allow you to connect to speaker terminals without cutting.
I did the Infinity upgrade in my former 03 that is popular on the org, but I hated them. I am totally infatuated with the CDT Audio upgrade you see in my signature. It does have crossovers in the front, though, which complicates the wiring. Clarity, transparency, imaging and sound pressure levels are startling. |

Thanks for replying.....Im probably not going to go all out w/ the audio upgrade. What I had in mind were some speakers that would give me better highs and lows. The Bose is crap IMO. I am definately replacing the subwoofer and dynamating behind it, leaving the existing amp that powers it. What Sub is ideal for this? Is the '06 still 2 ohms like the '01-'04?
Couple of questions still. Do you know if Metra has the speaker adapter kit available for the '06 yet? Im not seeing it online. Im seeing the '01-'04 only.
What aftermarket speakers are confirmed to be compatable? (The CDT's are high end stuff, Im not pushing enough power for them)

On the contrary. The CDT's are exceptionally efficient, and perform very well with the stock amp. They will blow your head off. At the time I got them, they were on special for about $250 /$100. It was not necessary to replace the stock sub.
My point is not to defend my choice, it is to say that you should keep an open mind and listen to the speakers you're going to live with. |

I bought 2 pairs for the doors....
Infinity 62.7i Kappa for the front & Infinity 6012si for the rear doors. $170 shipped for the pairs. Hopefully they workout.
Still need speaker adapters. |

Didnt get them yet......Still en-route. I have read a couple of people here that have used both of these speakers for the "05-'06.....With good results......The CDT's sound great but too much $$$
I'll let you know after I install them, then its time to pull that POS sub next |
