$11k front projector - sounds like that Sony SXRD projector with the funny name that they're raving about over on avsforum.com. Oh yeah, they call it the "Ruby".

I wish that it was! Actually, the projector they were talking about was my Runco DLP CL-710 which, while still great, is now a little long in the tooth. It listed for about that when I got it, but what the article left out was the fact that I won it on a Home Theater cruise so the price was right!

:)

Up until then (4 years ago) I was using a SONY VW10HT, their first serious HD capable LCD FP which was great for the time. I paid $5800 for that one in 1999 and it went to my kids when the Runco arrived.

In the 1080p arena I recently replaced my old (non-HD) Pioneer Elite PRO-75 (45" RPM) with the amazing HP MD5880n. It's a 58" 1080p input capable set that produces a most amazing picture. Of course, now it outshines my Runco and I will most likely get the "Ruby" or some equivalent once the price comes down in a few years since 1080p FP is the next logical step.

When I was at CEDIA 2005 last September there were only three 1080p capable sets out there (meaning that they accept 1080p native input which most of the others do not). I saw the "Ruby" FP, the Brillian RPM and the HP that I final purchased.

If any of you are interested in learning more about my 1080p experience (and my other gear) check it out here or my review here.

And if you haven't figured it out by now yes, guilty as charged - although Newsweek distilled everything I said into a sentence or two. That's what they do.
