today was the appt to get out windows tinted..... last night we had horrible winds....
i went out really quick before we left for our appt and really super quick ran the california duster over the X.... i noticed some spots on the passenger side windows... but thought that the sand had clumped and stuck to it... so didn't think about it again..... and didn't mention it to hubby....
the windows look really good tinted (got the cermamic stuff so it wouldn't interfer with the electronics....)
get home and start looking at the windows more closely... AND the sun is shining directly on the passenger side of the car.... it's then that i realize that that wasn't clumps of sand/dirt on my windows... IT'S PITTING! my 6 week old X has HORRIBLY pitting!!!!!!!!! ACK! and we just spent $400 getting them tinted!
i'm pissed.... i'm ill! i'm angry! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i've had several cars live through the wind (sand) storms here in the desert... well... all except the windshields... they ALWAYS take a beating! what i don't understand is why the windows are SO pitted but the paint (doors, sides) aren't?
i assume my insurance will replace the 3 pitted windows... but will they also replace the tinting????????????? |

The only agency/person that can answer your question is the insurance company. Regardless of what anyone on this board may say, the insurance company has the last word.

Wow, that sucks I feel for you. I know nothing about tinting, but if your insurance company agrees to replace the windows and not the tint, maybe you can work with the glass replacement shop and the tint shop to allow the tint shop to put the tint on before the windows go in the X? I would think the labor would cost less for the tint if you went this route....assuming you can even do this and both shops agree. Good luck and let us know how you make out. |

Re: i'm gonna be sick! (and i'm so ticked!)
Sorry to hear about windows, can this glass that Acura is using be that "Soft" that it would pit so easily? Hard to imagine...can you take a couple of pictures and post? Like to see the tint job too. I would think insurance would cover the tint...it is part of the car even tho it's after market. They would cover after market wheels and tires or audio equipment so why not tinting. |

Been there, done that...
My Cavalier (all of 1 month old) got sand blasted for a night when I was stationed in Sierra Vista, AZ. The "sand" washed right off of the front, back, and passenger side, but, the driver side- it didn't wash right off...
My entier passenger side window was pitted.
This was not a problem for me (driving) and after remembering I had a $1,000 deductible, I didn't get the windows fixed...
The only time it was a problem was if someone approached me from that side with their headlights on... Each pit semed to capture the light, and hold it, eventually making the window "white" from the oncoming light.
Only a problem in parking lots- I lived with it...
I don't want to get off on a rant here, but>>
What pisses me off, is the fact that some b@$t@rd bashed in my windshield (On my car) Thursday night at my home, in my "low-to-no crime" neighborhood...
God's blessing them though, because if I'd cought that sunuva.... I'd have shoved that bat, crowbar, maglight or whatever it was, right up their arse, hopefully, with shards of glass still on it.
If it had been some kid playing baseball, I'd still have been pissed, but I could have looked the other way (which I'm forced to since I don't know who did it), accident happen. But when someone intentionally/willfully and deliberately destroys your property, it makes you want to beat the schyt out of something, or someone. |

UGH! i meant to take pictures of the tint job yesterday after we washed it... but by the time we got home from our bike ride after the wash... i had a gizzilion things to do and forgot! maybe i can get some good ones this evening! i'll have to dust it off first! lol!
hmmmmmm i didn't think about them covering after-marker rims, etc... so maybe they will cover a re-tint job!?!
i still haven't called... trying to decide if i just want to live with it... or fix it (we only have a $100 deductible, i think... i don't think i raised it to $250??????)
ya.... the more i thought about it... the more i wondered the same thing... about the "soft" glass... i mean wouldn't ya think that if the wind was blowing enough to sand blast the windows.. it would damage the paint too? as a matter of fact... hubby mentioned knowing someone who got sandblasted and got a new paint job.. never mentioned the windows! perhaps it's acura i need to be talking to about "defective" glass?????????
it is definitely worse depending on how the light hits it.... this morning driving to work with the sun on my right i could see the pitting really bad (even the windshield is pretty bad!) we also noticed there is some pitting on the driver's side... but not as bad as the passenger side!
i'll see if i can get any pics that will show the pitting, too.... i know the light will have to be just right for it to show up in a pic... but i'll give it my best shot! |

Don't forget that the 'glass' coverage in your policy may have no deductible at all. |
