After finding number of postings on this site very helpful, I wanted to share my experience with others, hopefully, I'll be helpful to them as well.
Despite that number of people had good experience with Blitzsafe adapter, I was specifically searching for something that would allow me to control the iPod from my car stereo control panel. I did find one, the USASpec PA11-HON at Discount Car Stereo, despite them claming its compatibility with my MDX, the manufacturer (USASpec) didn’t list MDX as one of the supported vehicles.
As there were no reviews of this adapted, I went ahead and bought one from this store (http://www.discountcarstereo.com) with a risk of having a brick on my hands if it didn’t work out.
The adapter itself is very nice, it also provides an additional set of RCA jacks for yet another input. I’ll use it for an overhead DVD player later. I’ve installed it without major problems in ~2 hours, following the “not an ashtray” method (thanks to XStatic):

I’ve also followed the directions for central console disassembly (thanks to Wazowski) to route the iPod cable to the console storage area:

In the end, I was very happy with the outcome, the stereo controls the iPod as if it was a CD changer, supports up to 6 “CD” i.e. play lists. Each CD is an iPod play list named HONDAn_Some_Text, where n is a number from 1 to 5. These are mapped to CD’s 1 through 5 in the stereo, the 6th CD in the stereo maps to all the songs on the iPod. Very clever. Highly recommended.
My MDX is:
2004 base, base stereo with a single CD.
If you have a multi-CD stereo or/and navigation, this adapter may not work. |
