For some reason, the sound is coming out flat, almost as if the equalizer is high in the mid-range and with weak bass and treble.
As far as I can tell, all the speakers are working....i.e. producing sound, but the sound of the system just sounds rather flat.
Is this normal? |

Unfortunately, normal for BOSE. As you turn the volume up, you'll also notice the soundstage tends toward the middle and cuts out the highs and lows.
Can't hear the highs? Can't feel the lows? Sorry my friend, it must be BOSE. |

Did bose work on the reciever too, because if they did that seems nothing like them. Our Wave radio and both of my grandparents are very deep, along with the 3-2-1 systems you see on display at the stores.

| I had a 2002 with the Bose system and noticed the same thing - had to turn the treble up to almost max, then sounded OK, but that always bugged me. I just traded it for a 2006, and there is a HUGE difference in the Bose speakers, it sounds much better now! They changed the speakers and the amp at some point, and it sounds much better. Highs are much more crisp, bass is very natural (not muddy anymore), and the imaging is noticeably better. Of cource XM still sounds very flat (it always will compared to CDs or even an iPod due to the high compression). I have a Wave Music System also, and the car now definately sounds better than it. Not sure if the '05 had the old or new speakers/amp - listen to one of your CDs in an '06 at the dealer next time you are in, see if you can tell a difference - if you can, ask them to check yours out. |

| Unlike our MDX, the Bose speakers in my A4 sound great. I changed the speakers in our MDX to Infinity and it made a huge difference. I have to question the quality of the MDX Bose speakers...I think they had paper cones. |

| Even the sound system in my 2004 RL is night and day from my 05 X. I thought the stereo unit was by Alpine as is the Navi and the speakers by Bose? |

According to this post - the HU is Panasonic.

The NAVI is Alpine and the speakers are Bose (even the "twiddler"). |

and what exactly is wrong with that ?
Metal cones require sharp crossovers (read higher order and more components) to snub their nasty breakup nodes. Certainly not the best candidates where the only crossover in a typicaly 2-way or 3-way car audio speakers is a capacitor, or two. They sound..well..metallic. Assuming all other things are right (quality of the amp, headunit, etc..) a paper cone sounds much more pleasant, warm and is easy to work with in terms of crossover design. I'd choose a paper, poly or sandwich cone over a metallic any day. |

| I'm pretty sure the Infinity speakers I put in have a poly cone, but regardless of the material, they sound far better than the OE speakers. |

I bought a 2006 mdx with nav 2 months ago and think the Bose stereo is really poor. It sounds like the sound is coming from the floor.
Maybe it's XM as cds do sound better, but acura needs to fix this. Honestly, the stock stereo in my 2001 Hyundai Elantra sounds better. |

| Agree... my MDX is just 3 months old and like Paul S. I moved from an A4 w/Bose...what a let down. I'm thinking Infinity replacement speakers already. :( |
