Just picked up a 2006 Toyota Tacoma the other night. Very fun truck to drive so far. Got this baby fully loaded: Double Cab 4x4, 5spd auto, TRD off road package, VSA, DAC, Side Curtain air bags, 6 disc JBL system, DRL's, skid plates, Tow package with coolers, bed extender.... It's got a pretty beefy 4.0 V6; much improved over the past generations of Toyota V6's.
She had 14 miles when I claimed her, and we're now in the break-in period. Not as smooth a ride as the MDX, but it sure will be fun taking her up into the high country this summer and navigating the trails.
Check it out. Any other Tacoma owners on this forum? |

Nice truck congrats!
I test drove one almost exactly like that last year. It is a very decent truck. It felt quicker than the MDX from a stop, and magazine times show the same.
It should prove to be more capable offroad than the X...that's for sure! |

| Sweet truck. You should head straight for Tin Cup Pass. You'd have a lot of fun with it there and the fishing's (rainbows) always good. It's a moderate trail, just perfect for breaking her in!! Down 285, trail starts at St Elmo, an old abandoned mining town. |

I know that area very well. I own some property off of 285 about 25 miles east of there back toward Fairplay. That's "real Colorado"; not the drive along I70 with a ski resort at every exit.
Never been on that trail, but it looks like a good one. Seems like there's an endless supply of exploration to be done around here; if only I didn't have to work..... |

Thanks EH. The new 4.0 V6 in these things is the best engine Toyota has put out in a while (for the trucks). The transmission is tuned so that for average driving, the shifting keeps the RPM under 2000 for the most part (for fuel economy). But if you step on that gas, it really kicks back and moves.
6500 lb towing capacity as well; not bad for a "mid size" with a V6. |

What's the reason(s) for the purchase? Do you have stuff to haul or do you enjoy go off-road? |
