So I was driving with the wife from Atlanta to Louisiana at night, when some idiot pulls out from the emergency lane. I swerved to avoid, but being on cruise control at 80, I didn't have time to hit the brakes before I overcorrected, throwing it into the ditch on the right, rolling it twice through the trees before coming to a stop on the passenger side of the car 60 feet into the woods.
Yes, we are both ok. No, the airbags didn't deploy. There was no impact to the front or rear bumpers, and strangely there seemed to be hardly any damage to the car at all. There was no intrusion into the passenger cabin, the windshield was intact as well as the front and rear windows.
As we came to rest on the passenger side, I was still suspended in midair by my seatbelt. We had to open and crawl out of the sunroof, of course after I determined our location using the GPS. We were in the middle of BFE.
Had it not been on its side, I was thinking that it almost seemed driveable! I mean nothing was wrong with the passenger cabin. It wasn't until the towtruck arrived and it got on the flatbed that it was clearly totalled.
Here are the pictures for your enjoyment! And rest assured it seems like the MDX will keep you safe in the event of an accident.
By the way, I now have some wheels and tires for sale. Check my ad on the Classified board. |

| I always wondered what the under side looked like.. |

| Once they got it flipped back over, we could see the back two quarterpanel windows got blown out. Strangely the liftgate window was still intact. |

jywong,
Sorry to hear about your accident. I remember your MDX with the nice chrome dubs. On the bright side, I am glad you and your wife survived without injury. |

Thanks everyone for the comments! Yes, my insurance company, Nationwide Insurance, was absolutely awesome in handling my claim.
The driver that caused the accident actually stopped, along with a trucker behind us that saw the whole thing. The trucker came down into the woods to see if we were alright (we were, but it still took 30 minutes for us to collect our essentials and hike back to the highway).. we waved and said yes, he headed back to the road, and by then the woman had driven off.
I only had two months left on the lease, so no biggie on the car, but the insurance company evaluated the total and settled VERY quickly, and even sprung for a one way car rental to get me back to Atlanta... and then on top of that, valued my car at way more than the residual value of the lease (I guess because of my aftermarket additions), so they actually sent me a check after they paid off Honda! And since the woman drove off and the trucker was there to verify my story, they wrote it up as an uninsured motorist incident, which then halved my deductible and *may* reduce factors that might increase my future premiums.
Go Nationwide!
As far as a new car.. I don't think I can wait until December to get an '07 MDX.. |

| Hint: Walking away from an 80 mph rollover? You only get one of those in a lifetime. You got yours. Don't try for two. |
