Recently when I had an alignment done at Tire's Plus they gave me a report with before and after values and the "spec" values that were a range of minimum to maximum acceptable values.
When I looked in the owner's manual under specs, the alignment figures are fixed numbers and not ranges. For example, Toe is 0° in the manual but the tire's plus spec is -0.15° to +0.15°. Where/How did they come up with that ? What does the oem service manual say about alignment specs ? |

| The service manual gives the optimum spec (like you see in the owner's manual) and the acceptable range +/- as well. This is where the they get the +/- numbers when setting the specs n the software of the alignment machines. |

ok thanks supertech. its good to know the serv man lists those ranges as well.
Once again, toe is the only thing "adjustable" on these things, right ?
Now if camber and caster are thrown off anyway, is aftermarket alignment the only way to bring it back to where it should be ? wonder if anyone's done aftermarket alignment of camber and caster for optimum, or performance tuning ? |

| Performance tuning on an MDX? There's no aftermarket for that. On the RSX, there are bolts available from Honda that attatch the front strut to the knuckle that have smaller shoulders which allow some play so the camber can be adjusted. But nothing like that for the MDX. Caster can sort of be adjusted by loosening the entire front subframe, using a prybar to shift it a little, and retightening the bolts. This is only done when the vehicle has been wrecked before and something is off because the body shop didn't quite get everything straight. |

well by performance/aftermarket I meant that usually performance shops might be able to adjust something that aint adjustable 'stock', or to your 'preferred' specs. Here's a recent alignment report.
I'd like to, if possible that is, have same Caster and Camber on both sides, or atleast reduce the difference especially the front left camber.
Sometimes cross-camber and cross-caster are done on purpose to compensate for the road crown, but I am not all that for it. Besides the way it is right now, the cross caster and camber are anyway other way around!
iirc I was told that one of the two bolts on the lower side of the front struts could be changed to adjust camber. |
