WHEN I START THE 2003 MDX THERE IS A NOISE LIKE SOMETHING SPINNING STILL FOR ABOUT 3 -4 SECONDS. I THOUGHT MAYBE ITS THE STARTER SOLENOID.???

I too have an '03.

When I went in for my 37,500 mile service, without asking, the dealer changed the starter motor.

He said there was a bulletin on it.

Covered under warranty.

My starter is also making a grinding noise for a few seconds after I start it up. I'm scheduled to see a new dealer (moved a few months ago) and my 2003 MDX has 98,000 miles. What do you think...any chance my new dealer goes for a warranty item on this? Any suggestions on my approach to him? thanks

I posted on this issue a few months ago with my '03 also. I haven't done anything with it. It tends to be more pronounced when it is cold. I would be interested to know if there is a service bulletin on this.

I have an appointment at the dealership on Tuesday and will post the results. Keep your fingers crossed that it's a covered item and we can all get that annoying noise taken care of.

There is no bulletin for this problem. We've replaced many of these for the same problem though, covered under the normal 4/50 warranty. The bendix stays engaged too long which causes the whine/grind noise.

Thanks...that's exactly what the dealer said. Since my car was out of warranty ( 98,000 miles) it was all on me, to the tune of $570. OUCH
