The left side of my glove box is not properly aligned with the rest of the dash. Its not terrible, but if you look closely its obvious that its not flush.
The dealership says that there is no adjustment possible on the box. When they've ordered replacement units, they are the same or worse than the original.
Has anyone had the same problem and were you able to get it resolved? |

I have the same excat thing and unless the dealer replaces the box with a new straight one, there is no adjustments to be made. I have accepted the fact that this is NOT a luxury SUV and just another SUV that looks better than the average SUV.
My dealer told me when I was first looking at the MDX that the fit and finish of the MDX is far below the Japanese made Acura products they sell. They also told me that they had a brand new Gold MDX that the door color didn't match the rest!
My driver side exterior door handle was also not straight and I had the dealer replace it. It was not an assembly problem, the handle was just manufactured poorly. The label on the MDX said something like 60% US made. I don't have anything against US made products just that the Quality Control is far below Japanese made products.
I have also seen at least two MDXes on the road with one of the tail light bulbs out! My experience with non-Japanese made Honda products (I have had many Honda products) is that the light bulbs don't last very long!
Nothing is perfect, so enjoy the good points of the MDX I guess. |

Our company also manufactures the G-Box...
It was a struggle to get honda canada to except this gap/flushness probelm to an acceptable level. This problem also exists on the new civic...
I think its a joint problem...our parts and honda's design of the g-box/IP.

Could you clarify, was Honda Canada unwilling to accept the gap and your company was (uhhh, how do I put this) making excuses? Or are you saying that Honda Canada felt "stop worrying, it's close enough" but your company felt "no, we can do better"????
Just for my piece of mind. |

Basically I'm saying there were gap and flushness issues...
no one would fix the problem....
Oh its time for mp...guess we'll accept it. |

The dealership tried to adjust the fit on my glove box (the left side was sticking out). I went to pick up the vehicle after the adjustment and it was exactly the same as when I left it. Maybe they thought I wouldn't notice.
When I complained, they said that they would replace the box with a new one. When I went to pick up the MDX, the box was not perfect, but pretty much flush with the rest of the dash.
I then tried to open the box...no problem. I then tried to close the box...PROBLEM. It now has to be slammed shut multiple times. The dealership says that there is no adjustment (I wonder what they were trying to adjust previously) and if I want a box that closes like most glove boxes normally do, then it will not be flush.
FRUSTRATING |

So there I was, driving east on the 101 freeway with my wife this evening on our way to meet some friends for dinner. I had the sunroof open, the in-dash 6 was playing some great music, traffic was moving swiftly, and then, all of a sudden the wife says to me "hey, what's wrong with your glove box? It doesn't look like it has shut all the way." I looked over and sure enough, there was a noticeable gap!
I of course nearly ran several other cars off the road while opening and slamming the thing shut - just to prove to her that this is the greatest SUV on Earth. I was however, unable to achieve "flushness!" Immediately upon my return home I logged on the THE site and am happy to hear I am not alone, yet saddened to learn that this is a problem that appears to have no immediate fix available.
Does anyone know of any good news for those of us who are experiencing this problem - it looks horrible. |

Can someone add a pictureof this problem? I looked at mine and its not ( to the spec ) perfect but its also not bad enough to see inside the compartment when shut.
TECK! |

| I got mine yesterday and because I have been reading from the forum since I put down a deposit, I know where I should look for problems. Thanks! I immediately noticed that the left side of the glove box is out of alignment, off by several millimeters or so. I am not sure, though, whether this is a serious enough problem. |

I have the same mis-alignment issue with my glove box. It's not that noticable (unless you know it's there, of course). What bothers me the most, though, is the constant rattling. It's not loud but it is perceptable. I find myself constantly leaning over to instinctively open the glove box and slam it shut. That seems to stop the rattle for about 20 seconds then it starts again.
Does anyone else have the rattle? |
|

Mine is misaligned too but being ebony interrior, it does not show much. But it did not and should not rattle at all. Bring it in for a fix.
Cheers :) |

I'm pretty sure that I do *NOT* have the rattle.... But I think we've all got the gap. Mind the gap. |

| I want to reiterate that mine is misaligned, protuding on the left side a little bit, but no gap on the top and shut tight. |

I have the same problem with my glove box. It's not flesh with the side either. I started to hear a rattle and blamed it on the glove box having so much stuff in it, like the big Acura leather book case they give you with about 4 books in it. So I took everything out thinking that it would quit making that noise and maybe it would go flesh with the sides. That wasn't it. It's something above the glove box clunking while I'm driving down the road. It drives me bonkers. I can handle the glove box not being right on it's spot, but I can't handle the clunking noise it makes when I'm driving. It's worse than the THUD!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the Board. I really don't notice the glove box as I rarely sit on that side. Tell us more about your ride! |

Lmeans, while I've seen a number of posts about the mis-alignment, your the first (other than me) to complain about a rattle. Mine is driving me crazy as well. I can live with it not being flush, but the rattle  !!!!!! What's worse is that I took it in for service and they said they tightened it up. It seemed OK on the ride home from the dealership but the next day it was back. I will be bringing it back in for them to take another crack at it. |
|
|
| lmeans |
What exactly did they tighten up? Was it the glove box itself or the wires above it? When you take it in again to get it fixed let me know what they do to it. My husband says that he could fix it instead of me going 150 miles to get it done.
Lmeans |

Lmeans,
Not exactly sure what they fixed (or didn't fix in this case), although I thought it was the box itself as opposed to wires. I didn't save the copy of the work order they gave me when I picked it up.
I'm scheduled to bring it in this Friday. I'll let you know what they did and if it worked. |

Lmeans,
In light of Tuesday's events my Glove Box rattle that drove me crazy for so long is ridiculously trivial. I'm sure you feel the same way. But I did have an appointment so I brought it in yesterday to be looked at again.
When I picked it up they told me that they tried many different adjustments but just could not get the vibration to stop. They are theorizing that the Glove Box is somehow "warped". (I didn't mention this message board to them, but it would seem that many MDX Glove Box's are warped given the mis-alignment complaints. But for some reason you and I are the only ones complaining of an annoying "rattle".)
They have ordered a new glove box and will install it next week or the week after. In the meantime, they applied some type of "cushion strip" (with a tape backing) right above the little iron catch to at least stop the noise. This is temporary, obviously, but it was nice to drive last night without the rattle.
I'll let you know if the new Glove Box works. |
|

Thanks for letting me know what's going on. Everytime I hear the rattle/sqeak noise I just cringe. I can't stand it. I had my daughter open the glove box up and I drove down the road and up the driveway with it like that and I didn't hear it. So my theory of the wires is probably wrong. I'm going to call tomorrow. I just hope they can fix it when I go there. It's just a long day when I go to Chicago and back to my house. I don't want to make trip after trip to get this done. I hope your new glove box works. Let me know.
Thanks,

Well, here is a picture of the infamous misaligned glovebox. To be honest, I was unaware of it until someone pointed it first out in this thread.
The photo exacerbates the misalignment, but shows what to look for. It's about 1/4 to 3/8 inch out of alignment. By pushing on the left hand side of the door, you can get it aligned.
As someone else pointed out, a black interior hides the flaw much more so that a saddle interior. I am just gonna leave it....
The rattle is something else....fortunately I have no rattles or thunks or thuds.....
Fingers crossed, |
|

| Sorry about the misaligned photo in my last post......my mind was obviously on my misaligned glovebox.;) |

Octavian,
Thanks for the pic. Mine is not that much misaligned as yours does. As I said before, being ebony interior, it does not show up at all. No rattle either. |
|
|
| lmeans |
So why don't you have the rattle/squeak. What could it be?
Lmeans
P.S. It would be nice if it was flesh with the rest of it, but I could live with it if it weren't for the rattle/squeak. |
|
|
| octavian |
the lack of a flush closing is no biggie for me. I drove today to work and looked at it. And unless you KNEW it was misaligned, it is almost impossible to detect.
Squeaks and rattles, tho, are another matter. Can't hide them very easily. Don't know what to tell ya....I am sure I will have my share of squeaks eventually! |

We too have a slight misalignment on the left side. But its not that bad. In fact if it were not for this thread I would never have "looked for" it. Thanks a lot guys;)
There is however, no rattle associated with our glovebox! |
|
|
| AtlantaMDX |
| I don't really notice the gap unless I really look at it, so it doesn't really bother me. Also, I don't sit in the passenger seat very often. I don't have the rattle either. Lmeans, you sure it's not something you've put in the glove box? |
|
|
| lmeans |
Yep I'm sure. I took everything out and put it in my little compartment in the back where the headrest go and I still have the rattle/squeak. My husband tried to fix it the other night had the whole glove box out. He couldn't do it. I need to take it in, but I'm dreading going. I just need to take a day and just go.
DonsMDX did you go back for your new glove box? And if you did-- did it fix it?

I'm going up to Chicago Monday morning to see if they can fix my rattle squeak. I hope they don't say I have to live with it, or I'll be pretty upset  . I'm also going to try to get them to fix the squeak in my sunroof (again) while I'm there. I'll keep you posted on what they say or do.

I just read this problem last Friday. Now I'm really bummed. About the only complaint I have other than the seats is the glove box. I was holding off getting the wood trim kit until I take the vehicle in to have the glove box aligned.
Anyone, how does the glove box wood trim look on a glove box with gap on the left side? |
|
|
| donsev |
Obviously the glove box alignment is a known issue (it was even raised in pre-production) but it never really bothered me until after reading these posts :(
Where is that poll again about not caring about issues unless they are brought up on this forum - I'm going to change my vote. ;) |

I just got back 20 minutes ago after getting my rattle/squeak fixed in the glove box. What they did was tightened something up (very obvious when opening and closing the glove box) and replaced the lock/latch. It's not aligned, but no more rattle/squeak 120 miles later. Make me happy :D . I also told them I need the sun roof squeak fixed and they lubed it up and for a short time I drove with it open and no squeak ;) . I'm keeping my fingures crossed.
DonsMDX--hopefully you have good luck too.

Thanks, Lmeans. So far, no luck. My Glove Box is still on back order. At this point I'm just hoping it arrives by the time I go in for my 7500 mile check up - probably still a couple months away from that.
I'll keep you posted. Glad your's seems to be fixed. It must feel like heaven driving without a rattle. |

I feel much better now that they fixed the rattle. I just hope it stays that way. I can't believe your new glove box isn't in. You know what I think they did to mine? I saw one of the service people in the show room taking the latch off of a new MDX and I think they put it on mine. I wonder why they didn't do that to yours and fixed the other one later  . That way you would be fixed and ready to go. Hopefully soon!!!

That's great. It's so much better driving down the road not listening and wondering if you have to listen to that awful noise. Mine is still squeak/rattle free too. Whew!! I sure hope it don't happen again.
Tomorrow me and a couple of friends are taking the MDX on a small trip. Now I'll be able to listen to them not wonder what all these noises are.
I'm so glad to hear that yours got fixed.

Glad to hear that yours is rattle free. Is the left side misalignment cured too? Just wonder:rolleyes: |

Thanks lmeans and tdnone!!!
tdnone, good question. It's probably a little better than before but, to be honest, it still doesn't seem completely flush with he dash. Nothing that noticable, but still off. I probably wouldn't have even brought it in previously (with the old mis-alignment) if it wasn't for the vibration. So now, even the mis-alignment is a little better. So I'm content.
Take care

I took mine in for the 7500 mile service (3 hr-168 mile drive each way)last Saturday and mentioned to them the problem with the glove box having a gap on the left side. Since the box itself was not adjustable, they adjusted the position of the latch it connects to. It's not totally perfect but from the drivers seat I don't notice it anymore. I'm satisfied and I'm picky. It snugged it in about an 1/8" and now closes more solidly and still latches every time.
I can only assume this will have a positive effect on the clicking sound also. It hasn't been cold enough as of late to hear it. |

I have been waiting 2 weeks for a new glovebox. My glove box is badly misaligned and makes a horrible tapping noise. When I went to my Acura Dealer (Acura Columbus) I brought them a printed copy of this thread and they claimed they had never heard of this problem before.
Have those of you who received replacement glove boxes been satisfied with the replacement? Has it stopped th rattling? |
