As soon as that info is released we'll let you know - now it is all speculation.

.....it will have a 3.7 liter V6 that will produce in the area of 300bhp and 280lb.ft. of torque.

Availability has been pretty much confirmed to be somewhere in Oct/Nov of this year.

There is no news whatsoever as to how much it will cost, but a good guess considering that it will be moved significantly upmarket with all the added goodies, and looking at what Acura has done with recently released new models, it will likely be about $3,000 to $5,000 more than the current MDX.

Think the car is boring that they need Redbull to enjoy the drive.

I can't wait for that to come out! Looks like it is going to be my next car.

My lease runs out End of October, so I have spoken to my dealer.

Here is what he is saying:

No "base" model, prices will start at about $40,000.

Super handling AWD taken from the RL.

Personally, what appealed to me, when I leased four years ago, was the base price of about $35,000.

My MDX takes me skiing, hauls the kids and my boat. For my "luxury car" I have an Audi 8L. With the 4 year warranty and high residual my '03 MDX leased out for less than an '03 Ford Explorer, so getting the MDX was a no brainer!

I think Acura has lost their way: The MDX was a super value - but recently they are trying to move way upscale but without success: The RL is a prime example: Sales are dismal - who is really interested in a $50,000 Acura with a 6 cylcinder engine, small back seat and trunk?

At $35,000 to $40,000 the MDX is a great value. I plan on getting an '06 for less than I am paying for my '03!

At north of $40,000, there are many alternatives from makers with more of a "cache" than Acura.

Agree. I'm sure the 40k+ price will not hold for long. I'd be very surprised, if in 2 years the same 35K will not be the average price. Which is when I'll be looking again... Otherwise, bye Acura.

re: interior

Console looks too busy, IMO. The reason I dislike MB. The shifter also puzzles me abit.

I will make a bet that the MSRP is no more than $1,000 above current. Would not make good business sense to raise it more than that.

Dear G. COLTON

With regard to the price, I could not agree with you more.

However, all indications are a base price of north of $40,000.

I think this will be HUGE MISTAKE!.

But Acura is bent on moving upscale - at least in price! But with little or no success.

I note that there are not only special lease plans on the RL but also $3,000 rebates.

I think that sums it up!

With the RDX coming in at an estimated $33-37K I think that they will have to price the MDX above $40K. Previous posts have estimated increases as high as $10K, and I'd be suprised if it's less than that. There's a lot of competition coming out in '07 models so time will tell if that type of increase is able to maintain itself in a competitive world.

Just because they're increasing the price doesn't mean it won't still be a superior value. It may be 40k+ base but with all the goodies they give you, it looks more like a 60k+ truck.

Car sales and prices are like a pyramid:

Think of the base of a pyramid as cars costing $20,000. Think of the peak as cars costing more than $100,000.

As the price goes up, the number of cars sold goes down.

With a price of north of $40,000 you are near the peak of the pyramid.

Let's not forget that for every Lincoln navigator sold, Ford sells 7 Explorers.

At $35,000 the MDX competes with mainline SUVs. If you lease, as I do, because of the residual on the MDX being so much higher than on an Explorer, Trailblazer, Jeep, etc. it is actually cheaper to lease an MDX than its competitors.

But north of $40,000 is a whole different ball game. Now you are competing against brands with a "cache", Porsche, Audi, Mercedes Benz and Lexus.

With the RL Acura attempted to compete against the BMW 5 series, Mercedes E series and Audi 6, but without success. In fact Acura is giving $3,000 rebates on the RL. So I guess you could say the RL is a qualified disaster.

I am afraid the same will be true with an MDX that starts north of $40,000.

Even if it has Super Handling AWD and other techno goodies - who cares - who asked or wants them?

Think it about it: This is an SUV - who asked for Super Handling AWD??????? Will it really make any difference to the vast majority of buyers of SUVs who want reliability, cargo space and utility?

I think not!

Price, reliabaility and utility are what has sold the MDX. Not techo goodies.

..if you compare it with comparable vehicles and available warranties a $50K MDX struggles to be a "value." A Kia Sorrento (which my daughter owns) has similar utility, GREAT dependability, a 100,000 mile/10 yr warranty STANDARD, drives great (although a little light on the steering for me). Consumer Reports knocks gas mileage a little but you can make that up in the $30K savings you had over an MDX.

It's inevitable that folks will by the new MDX at close to $50K, if that's what it goes for, just as they will shell out $18-20K for the soon-to-be-imported, 2-seater, 3-cylinder Smart Car. I'm just saying that there will be greater values out there in '07 which may drown the MDX, ala the RL. Time will tell.

Also, MDX transmissions continue to be a major problem for some. It is now recommended that you not tow an MDX behind a motor home, etc, and many owners are frequently changing ATF oil to avoid potential problems. Trannys are a MAJOR component of any car. To have such a sensitive unit in a $40K vehicle is totally unacceptable but we seem to be stuck with it. AHM is sensitive to the issue because they won't even tell you how many they have replaced, and what it has cost them. They continue to avoid negative publicity on the issue by granting "good will" replacements on vehicles out of warranty (a happy customer is a "quiet" customer).

Personally, I hope they stay around the price point where they are now. They will sell more, and in quantity there is profitability for them.
