My newest toy just showed up for my theater, some sexy Canadian gear, a Classe' SSP300 preamp/processor. It is replacing my old Proceed AVP. Hope to get a chance to swap it tonight.

I am in the framing stage for the new theater, so I just have my equipment set up on my Mitsubishi HD CRT rear pro for now, but the other equip going into the theater will be a Runco CRT projector, the Classe' pre/pro, an Adcom 5 channel amp, Marantz universal DVD player, DishNet HD receiver, and XBox360. I have my AudioQuest cables on order as well as my Richard Gray power conditioner. My speakers for now are all Jamo, CinemaCenter, Classic 8 towers in front and Classic 4 bookshelves and DiPolar on walls in the rear, I can switch them out for movie and multi-channel music. Control for now will come from a Phillips Pronto as I have two laying around the house not being used, hopefully to be upgraded to Crestron as the budget allows. I will be doing a 3 zone lighting system with sconces and cans with a Lutron GrafikEye for control. I have yet to order my screen, but with the room size and projector, it will likely be around 86". I don't have room for tierd seating, so it will have a lounge feel, with a sectional in the middle and a counter behind with bar stools so I can get more people in with a good sight line without the tiers. I will post pics of the finished theater when I get it completed.

Have you been following the price of the Classe Preamp? Just curious if the recent strength of the Canadian dollar against the US dollar made the price go up a bunch. I remember the good old days, not so long ago, when you could get $1.60 Canadian for each US dollar. Almost picked up an Anthem processor and amp back then.

I have not looked at their latest price sheet, but I can imagine they will go up on their US pricing. It seems like everything is going up with the materials and fuel costs rising. So why did you pass up the Anthem gear?

That's a nice way of saying "Tweak", right?:)
This stuff is just too addicting, especially when you have to work around it all day.

Thank goodness I've been spared that much temptation!

Because my wife pointed out to me that my reasons for upgrading from a Pioneer Elite VSX-49 were the same ones I used to upgrade to the VSX-49 in the first place, and she wasn't going to fall for that twice. Then I tried, "But it will look really cool in the equipment rack!", but that just resulted in her rolling her eyes.

Also, I was apparently unaware of the rule that says once you're married, other than a car or house, you're not allowed to spend more than $10k on anything that isn't sparkly and wearable on a finger, wrist, or neck.

Seriously though, I'll probably pick it up used on Audiogon when I get around to it. I've actually had more fun recently messing around with multiple systems made of less expensive components, rather than a single really expensive system.

Most of my system has been bought off of the motto "It is easier to ask for forgiveness then it is permission". I have too many hobbies going on at once, eventually I will have to narrow it down, but for now, I am having a blast.

If you, or anyone here are ever interested in used gear, send me a PM with what you are looking for, we constantly run into used high end gear. That is where I picked up my Proceed AVP and Runco CRT.

Outlaw electronics are built by the same company that does Anthem.
You can even see it in the control layout of the front panel.

A different set of features, and selection of internal components in some circuitry is what separates them.
They both sound fine, but generally audiophiles tend to prefer Anthem. Of course cost separates them too.

Given all that, both are quality lines of a/v electronics. Then there is Classe, Theta, and the list continues.

What lines do you deal in? I may be in the market for some new goodies :)

Speaker lines are Klipsch and B&W (looking at a couple of new lines, possibly Sonus Faber or Wilson)
Electronics lines: Mark Levinson, Classe', Theta Digital, Rotel, Marantz, Integra, Pioneer Elite.
We also sell Richard Gray's Power Company and AudioQuest cabling.

I have a few used goodies right now as well. We have a Proceed AVP2 in good shape.

What's your opinion of the new Marantz turntable, as opposed to my Music Hall MMF-5?
04mdx4sq
I hate to admit it, but I have yet to hear the Marantz, From all accounts, it sounds as good as it looks. I did get to see it at CEDIA last year and it was stunning. On the other hand, I have heard the MMF5 and was very impressed, and nearly knocked over by the price, I would have guessed the price to be at least twice what it was.

I'm still holding out for that Nottingham Deco.....:D

I don't think that's correct. Perhaps you're confusing Anthem with Atlantic Technology. Anthem is owned by the Paradigm Group and their products are designed and built in North America by Sonic Frontiers. Outlaw products are designed built by Eastech in China, and are sold under many brands, including Atlantic Technology.

My error. Sherbourn was the one I was trying to think of. They had some discussion on similarities with Sherbourn and Outlaw about a year or so ago on audioholics.

Yes, they also mfg. some AT and Fosgate electronics. Designing is done in North America and manufacturing by Eastech.

Now, who in Missouri has high end audio? Where are you buying this stuff? Tim, good to see you are still on the high end bandwagon. I sold my Dunlavy SCIIIs for a pair of Gallo Ref III. Still trying to get used to the sound.
