HID Conversion Kits and Fog - Click HERE for Original Thread

I was wondering if the people who have converted their halogen bulbs to HID are having a harder time seeing in the fog, since HIDs are way ( perhaps 3X ) brighter than the stock halogens. I would also think the experiences in fog between the owners of the HID kits in the older MDXs with the reflector type headlight housing would be different from the owners of HID kits in the projector housing. Care to share your experiences? I would be very interested to hear from you.

TIA.

Wow no comments? :D

I converted to HID's a year ago, and I haven't had any problems with foggy driving conditions. Actually I was quite surprised how well I could see under those conditions. I suspect it's because of the abrupt cut off inherent with the projector beam lens.

Glad to hear a positive experience with the HID and projector headlight. Did you notice if the fog lights help at all in conjunction with the HIDs?

Thank you, highcountry.

I am extremely impressed with the progressive coverage from fogs to low beam, to high beam. The coverage is smooth and continuous, with hardly any overlap. The Acura engineers apparently spent a lot of time designing optimum light coverage. Turning the fogs on gives smooth fill in from just in front of the car to exactly the point that low beam projector beam cut off coverage begins. Fog light beam coverage also extends a vast lighting area to either sides of the vehicle. Likewise, the high beams extend from the upper low beam cutoff area to infinity.

Note, I have incorporated a wiring modification that allows simultaneous fog, low, and high beam operation, which comes in handy when driving at night around some of these remote mountain roads near my home. I couldn't be happier with the results. Rewiring info can be found here. See both PsychoKnight's posting, and my posting further down on same page.

The usual warning: Use at your own risk, etc! Good luck.
