I am thinking about getting an OBD II scanner to check the codes causing the SRS light to stay on.
Anyone know of a good one for Honda/Acura DTC reading/resetting? |

| Do a search on posts about the OPDS sensor. I have an '01 and had the same problems. There's a TSB on it now, I think. I'm pretty sure I posted the details. If they tell you its electronics in your vehicle, tell them to take the electronics and shove them up their you-know-what and you'll still get the problem coming back eventually. |

| How many miles did you have on it when you got it fixed and did they cover the cost? |

| I had the stealer reset the light a few times before I finally gave up and had an independent shop do the replacement. A few months later the TSB came out and the shop showed it to me the next time I was in (isn't it cool to have a shop that actually remembers you and is proactive). They can't submit the paperwork for (hopeful) reimbursement and I still haven't gotten around to it. |

I've yet to see an OBD II scanner that will reset an SRS light. The only thing you can check/reset is MIL codes. |

| Will any of the OBDs read the codes that caused the SRS light to be set? |

do you have any light-weight object sitting on the front passenger side seat ? the srs system is programmed to sense lighter weight on that seat (like a child) and disable the srs to prevent injury. Try removing it and it should switch the light off.
btw autozone will do it for you free.
almost any obd-ii scanner will read a trouble code. but bear in mind that not all scanners read real-time sensor information, which is ofcourse only if you want to collect such data. |

What he's asking about is an SRS trouble light, not a Check Engine (MIL) trouble light. SRS systems are not part of the OBD-II spec and cannot be read by OBD-II readers. You need a specialty reader for that. |

| I should have been clear(er). I was not referring to the srs light specifically (I explained about the srs light in the first couple lines of my post), but in general since the op was also interested about checking and resetting DTCs, albeit driven by the fact that he saw the srs light. |

So, the only way to get the codes for the SRS problems is to pay the dealer and hope he gives you the actual code? |

| isn't there a way to jump the obd connector and see what code the LEDs flash ? |

Yes, there is but I don't recall where I saw the instructions to do it. |

Thanks, oilchange.
That is why Iwanted a way to read the DTC's for the SRS so that I would know if it is covered by this TSB. |

I have a 2002 MDX and my SRS light was on for months. I used the attached Service Bulletin above and, the Manual process starting at step 7 and my SRS light is currently off. This process re-initializes the OPDS (Occupant Position Detection System).
The 2P MES Connector (Yellow) is connected to the fuse panel, it may be behind a larger group of cables and a bit of a bit to get to, with the tight space.
I used a paper clip in lieu of the SCS Service Connector and followed the steps, it took me a few tries to get the timing down and get it to yield the expected outcome, two blinks of the SRS light.
I hope in a few days the SRS light is still out, if it was successful, I will re-post, as I am not sure if a few cycles might not bring the light back on. |

my accord has the SRS coming on because of the rear seat belt (latch), the 1st time the dealer replaced the whole set and my light turned off. I found it odd that the seatbelts would fail since no one ever really sits in the back seat of my car.
about 6months later the light came on again, I pushed the rear seat belt buttons a few times on all 3 rear seat latches, and turned off/on my car again and the light went out.
i have to do this about every 6 months or so btw
since my car is now 84k miles old and out of warranty, i don't really feel it's an issue unless the light wont go out. I'd rather not sit @ the dealership for an hr for them to swap the wrong set again.
purses or gym bags in the pass seat sometimes cause the "side air bag" light to go on, this is much different then the SRS light. |
