Production Delays? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Earlier this month I put down a deposit on a base MDX at a dealership in Lakeland, Florida that was supposed to be delivered at the end of July. I was told by the salesman that the vehicle's production date would be 7/21, and that he would call me once he received word that the vehicle was in production. After not hearing from him for a few days, I began calling him for word on my MDX. When he finally called me back yesterday, he told me that production of my MDX had been delayed for a month because the factory had switched over to producing Honda mini-vans. The salesman said it was a matter outside of the dealership's control and that the same thing had happened to other dealerships. It sounds to me as if he sold my MDX to a higher bidder. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks.

Buddyzippy,

Plant switching over to mini-vans?!? I think they produce on two different lines in the same factory. This sounds like BS to me.

Roger, Tim what do you guys think?

All I can say is we are getting 19 MDX's this month normally we get around 30-35. But as far as the factory switching for the production of vans sounds like a bunch of bs. If there was a production date for a certain vehicle that vehicle would still show up. Once I have production dates on my dealer report, I may be getting less vehicles than normal but the ones on that list get done. The only exception is when a vehicle looks like it's coming and it ends up going back. Still haven't figured that one out but they are few and far between. In many dealerships the saleperson has no access to information, he may be walking in all the light he has, and it may be dim in there. Go to the GM.
Just sounds fishy to me.

Please post the name of the dealership and make an entry into the dealer ratings here. Obviously a slimey salesperson, in contrast to good Acura salespeople. We've seen this tactic used before and MDX production didn't move an inch.

We bought out base MDX at Regal in Lakeland a couple of months ago after a short wait. We got the production date and it was here about 10 days after that date. The salesman we dealt with, Steve Sutherland, seemed honest and everything went as planned. We paid MSRP, with no extras.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I can tell you, however, that it seems to me that once a production date is set, the vehicle will be produced. Why would they set a production date and then say oops, we changed our mind, we want to make vans that week. Not likely. Not sure what the problem is though. You may be right. It's not unheard of.

I know that when we were looking, I found 2-3 three MDXs within a 3 hour drive that I could have had in a 2-3 week period, all for MSRP. Call around the state like I did. It works. Make the deal over the phone, have them fax you a buyers order, WITH A VIN, and give a credit card deposit. Get the sales managers signature on the buyers order. I'll bet you can find one.

It seems as if we have a mutual friend. I don't know what really happened with my MDX, all I know is that the other dealerships that I have contacted have never heard of such a thing happening. Fortunately, I was able to find the same MDX at another dealership (I was very lucky that someone had just cancelled their order), and the MDX is now sitting in my garage. I guess things have a strange way of working out.:) By the way, I love the vehicle!:D

BuddyZippy,

Welcome to the owners family. Good for you. Congrats on the new MDX. You'll enjoy it. So tell us about it. What color, what trim level, accessories, etc.... Can't wait to hear.
