I've got an 04 MDX. It's going in next week for service: the brake thud and the Audio control ont the steering wheel, both of hwich have TSB's (and are, no doubt, only temporary fixes). I've looked on the NHTSA website but can't find any more TSB's that apply to my X.
I've had no other problems at all, but is there anything that somebody could recommend the dealer check out or do you know of any other TSB's? |

They did the steering audio control/buttons TSB on mine two weeks ago and it works great - haven't a problem with it since then. This is the TSB where they did something with the ground wire. There is another audio control TSB related to "dimpling" something inside the steering and this was not done on mine - maybe it was for other model years. So, be sure they do this "ground" TSB. Someone here once said it's ok to do both TSBs anyways.
Hmm... I should have asked for the brake thud TSB!! I guess I already got used to this - so I didn't remember to ask for this TSB/repair.
Anyways, more TSBs are at http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Acura/index-post.html but this is for various Acura vehicles grouped into one page... gotta sort thru 'em slowly to find the ones for the MDX. |

What about the sub-woofer rattle. Have you experienced that or had it done yet?
I had both steering wheel audio control TSB's done. The second one is over 3 months now and no problems. I think they got it! |

| But why are you looking for TSB's if there aren't any problems? TSBs aren't recalls - they're just guidelines on how to fix existing problems. |

Well, I never considered the brake clunk a problem until I logged onto this forum. Since then, it's kinda bothered me. Knowing that there is a TSB out there means that the dealer will check and hopefully fix it. If there are other items that may be a problem to others and that I've been blissfully ignorant of, until learning of them, puts me in a better bargaining position as an informed consumer when I discuss my X with the dealer and if these problems ever have to be addressed. |

why do people look for problems with there vehicles??? if you have a problem then let your dealer know, then they will fix it, the TSB's are there to save the technician time, not for you guys to walk into the dealership with a piece of paper looking for free work done to your truck, which it may or may not need.
not to mention, you shouldnt want your truck taken apart to fix a problem that you may not have. everytime you take a panel off and put it back on, it never fits the same.
and the TSB's are not temporary fixes, they do work, for the 01-03 MDX, you dimple the copper ring to make a better ground path for the volume controls, for the 04 and up you move the ground point to again have a better ground path, how is this repair temporary???
why cant you just drive your truck and when and if you have a problem let your dealer know. |

It's obvious you work for a dealer. You're posts are many times anti-consumer/pro-acura. But in this case I agree with a lot of the things you say. No need to look for a problem that's not there and rip apart a perfectly good functioning vehicle.
With that said the only reason I brought up the sub is obvious. If you work there I know you've seen more than your fair share of people complaining about the sub rattle. The first time I went in I was assured that they knew what the problem was and would fix it. I've had mine in twice now with two separate repairs made and it still rattles. Do a search here and you'll find plenty of people in the same boat. A lot of people have resigned themselves to just live with it and that's wrong. Based on the number of posts regarding this problem it is very obvious that it is wide spread.
With regards to the steering wheel audio control, I have an '04 and have been in twice for this as well. Granted, the second time seems to have finally nabbed the problem. But these types of issues and the repeat visits are what causes the inference of temporary repair.
Let's not forget that there are two sides to every story and some people are frustrated by the fact that they must bring their vehicle in for repair, regardless of the fact that it's paid for, it is still an inconvenience. Having to do it two or more times for the same issue is what can really fire someone up.
You ask that we put ourselves in the dealers shoes many times, not directly, but by the content of your responses. I suggest that you do the same for the consumer. Not everyone is trying to take advantage.
I think you have a lot to offer. I've seen you make some informative posts. It's nice to have you around here. But step back for a second and remember who paid 40K for a vehicle and how you might feel in these situations. If the consumer is right or wrong they are entitled to the information and the expectation that a repair will be done correctly. |

| Well said. When it comes down to it, all dealers should remember where their income originates from. |
