Rattles everywhere - help! - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have a 2006 MDX, and like many other people on this board, have been driven nuts with rattles -- all over the car -- including coming from the 2nd row seats. Other rattles include from the dash, from the driver side door, and from the dvd/sunroof area (which makes a kind of fluttering sound EVERY time I go over moderate to large bumps in the road, which is very often).

Unfortunately, I've been to 2 separate dealers, several times each, and the rattles remain. They've been kind enough to ride in the car with me, but of course, the rattles never appear when I'm riding with an Acura serviceperson. They've replaced my sunroof visor and dvd screen, and looked all over the 2nd row seats, and taken the driver door apart and put it back together, and tightened/secured everything they could around or in the dash -- but the noises persist.

I have seen many people complain of rattle problems on this board, but no postings of solutions. Suffice to say, while this car does have many nice attributes, I'm extremely disappointed with the noises it makes -- not what one would expect from a luxury SUV costing in excess of $45K. I guess it's time just to live with the rattles; it appears to just be a very poorly designed car.

However - if anyone reading this has had success with quieting rattles, please do post for everyone's benefit.

You paid over 45k!!! I hope you got a helluva lot of accessories for that!

Kind of tough to find intermittent rattles. Are there any patterns to them? Do they happen after being in the sun all day? When it's cold, etc?

It's the 2006 touring model, with nav/dvd, along with many accessories; price actually was quite fair, everything considered. Unfortunately, no real pattern to the rattles, e.g., when car or weather is hot/cold.

I have the same problem in my 06 MDX also. In the service book it lists that they checked off for looking, and listening for rattles before handing the NEW car over to me. I have never heard so many rattles in a brand new car before. All of the headrests in the car rattle, the trunk trim, the fake wood trim on the passengers side, and the 2nd and 3rd row seats. Maybe it is covered under warranty?

Your posts remind me of the ones I was posting right after I got my 2005! I had the dealership attempt to fix a couple of the rattles, and they did really try but it didn't make much difference.

I've actually gotten used to everything I hear in the MDX, incredibly, since I hate noises. I think this is the one place where Honda needs to get more competitive with Toyota. Our Highlander is dead quiet, as was our previous Sienna. But overall I still like the MDX better (for me) than anything Toyota makes right now.

No rattle or noise so far for my 2006 Billet Silver, Touring w/RES & NAV whether its small/medium/large bump.

I pick the car from the lot, though driven by others with less then 13 miles, really would make a bad impression for would be buyers if such things happen during driving test. Right.

Perhaps, time is still ticking until problem start showing up.

one rattle that is easy to fix are the rear seatbelts. The buckle has to be put all the way up by the retactor, because this can cause alot of rattling.

BTW: i aslo have an 06 MDX with navi, res and touring that is BSM

Only rattle in our 2006 is caused by an extra child car seat when unoccupied. It drove me nutz until we figured out hat it was.

Carguy has summed up my experience with my '05 perfectly as well as my opinion/experience of Acura vs. Toyota. After a year of owning the MDX I don't regret my choice and would go with it again today over the competitors but I do wish Acura would dial up the quality control.
