Yesterday my X was gummed! I have a whole bunch of chewing gum on the passenger side that spans from the back to the front.
Anybody have experience on how to get it off? I did some searches and see Goo Gone and other similar products, but I'd like to know if anyone has used them and what they recommend.
Thanks. |

I assume this is on the carpet ?
Freeze the gum with something cold wrapped up so it stays dry like ice in a plastic bag. If that doesn't work, (if it's too hot out) there's a janitorial product that you can spray on it to freeze it up.
I've also heard of people using duct tape but not when it's still soft. |

It's on the outside, on the doors. It was pulled so that it covers the whole side from front to back. |

I have used goo-gone on the exterior of cars before with no damage to the finish - they actually make an automotive version that I don't think is any different than the regular. Not entirely sure if it will remove gum but it says removes "sticky, gummy, greasy" problems. I had used it to remove windshield adhesive from the exterior body of a previous CRV due to a careless windshield installation. If you are not sure, stop by a good body shop and ask what they recommend. |

Geez. When does school start ? :D
Not sure if this is the right thing to do but I'd probably get it nice and hot and then get to a DIY carwash. Get as much off as you can by spraying the gum at an angle, then use some bug and tar remover. Then wash the car again.
I thought I'd be doing this myself...we had what looked like gum on the C pillar. Turns out it was a huge cobweb or something that looked like one. |

ICE.
Use a cube of ice, and press it up against the gummed area. When it is cold, you can pick it off with your fingernail.
It is a little tedious, but it easy, cheap, and it works. |

Tonight we tried ice, and I think it would have worked if the gum was still in a big clump, but it was stretched out many feet in thin narrow bands, and the ice wasn't effective on it.
Next try will be Goo Gone....will try that tomorrow.
Thanks for all the tips! |

| Consensus on detailcity.org is Stoner's Xenit (same company that makes Invisible Glass glass cleaner). |
