Hi Folks,
I'm new to the forum and hope you might be able to help. My wife and I bought a used 2002 MDX about a year ago and it's been great. With the heat in Seattle in the mid-90's we're using the A/C more than usual and noticed the other day that the Rear A/C Panel will not come on.
I checked the 30A fuse under the hood - no problem. Checked to make sure it wasn't in "Full Auto" mode since the rear panel only works in manual mode. Naturally, I pushed the RR A/C button on the panel up front. The rear switches will light up, but the motor will not come on regardless of the fan speed position.
The rear panel had been working in the past and it pumped out cool and warm air depending on the settings.
Any ideas?

Actually, the rear panel works in Full Auto mode -- at least, mine does. You might have a blown fan motor back there. |

I also have a 2002 mdx, and the rear air and heat do the same thing yours does. Did you find out what the problem was? If you did please post or send me an email. Thanks sbfalone@yahoo.com |

Mikeinburien & ciman4u,
Hopefully you're the original owners or your Mdx is still under factory warranty. This is a common problem for '02, the rear transistor needs to be replaced, happened on my '02 and had it replaced under warranty. Good luck. |

| it is usually a blower motor transistor, very simple to change it yourself. |

I'm pretty handy, but was wondering if there are any step-by-step instructions available since this seems to be a common problem.
Unfortunately we're no longer under warranty and bought the car used. Anyone have any experiences, positive or negative, regarding the dealership doing this work on goodwill?

My 2001 MDX rear A/C is dead, all the cotroll buttons related to rear A/C works fine, but no air ccme out from vent.,
I checked the posted from DidMoroz on 6/19/2005 & mp29a4 on 7/14/2005, from these information I did fixed & worked fine now.
If you have rear A/C failure, check these 2 posted might help you to fix the issue.
Thanks to DidMoroz & mp29a4 |

Guys - I finally read the entire older thread end-to-end. Awesome content and I apologize for not researching this deeper.
Here's what I've figured out. I popped out the transistor and opened up the case and found that the fuse was indeed blown. I order three new ones from Mouser.com since they are closer to me in WA state than the Digikey people. They cost .40 each, plus about $5 shipping.
I suspect this will be the solution and like others I also suspect that the clogged filter full of LINT and other unidentifiable crap is causing the fan motor to overheat and blow the fuse. Is this a serviceable activity in the owner's manual? (Every 50k miles - Clean Rear A/C Lint Filter.)
Why on God's Green Earth would Acura put a fuse buried deep inside of something that no normal mortal could find on their own. (Cynical answer to self: Make more money, but I doubt that anyone was that calculating. Probably just bad design.)
I'll need to wait a few days to get my new fuse and will post back on the results.
Here's a question - what's the problem with using a regular 2A fuse? You think they'd blow too fast or something like that? That's a mighty big transistor in there and a pretty fat heatsink to keep its cool.

| I think the "filter" is the metal screen on the driver side of the center console by your feet, remove the trim and the screen is there. I sometimes pop if off too clean it. |
