I am working on purchasing a 2006 MDX with NAV from a local dealer. Looks like I will be at $36,500 for a purchase price. My question to the group is this: What should my strategy be for accessories? I would like the rear spoiler, iPod Link, running boards and side mouldings. The dealer price seems high, but my skills installing these things are definitely lacking? Suggestions?????

| Negotiate for the total price including accessories. Look at the labor and parts cost, all over the internet. This provide you ideas where you can negotiate for a lower price. As I was shopping around, you can negotiate for the parts but technically, you cannot negotiate on the labor. If you have the tools and time, you should be able to install these items yourself. |

If you do not have to have them in your purchase so you can finance them, you shuld go on the internet, get the lowest prices you can find for OEM accessories, and then take them to you Local Dealer...most parts departments will match your pricing...taking into consideration any shipping charges that may apply from buying on the web, and buy them that way. Service then should be able to possibly give you up to 10% off of labor if they are a dealer that is willing to negotiate the labor to install the accessories if it is not something that you can install yourself. Most interent companies will ship yo instructions for install as well, so buying themon the web could also be your cheapest option...again, this is all dependant on being able to pay for the accessories up front with cash and not finance.
Make sure you know EXACTLY how the Music Link works...a lot of people do not like the system and it would be a waste of money to install..however...the other options for IPOD use on MDX's is quite limited due to the lack of an available cassette option. |

Welcome!! Not too many of us Colorado folks on this forum. I'm just up the road from you at 95th and Arapahoe in Boulder County.
In terms of the accessories, the spoiler is a bit tricky to install if you're not comfortable with tools (I have to admit, I was more than a bit leary drilling holes into my sheet metal). Have the dealer do that one. But the BSM's are just an adhesive, and you just need a wrench set to install any boards or side steps. Very easy, and you can save a ton buying these accessories on the net. Check out the link at the top of this website to hondacuraworld - they've got the best prices out there for accessories. Just as an example, the side steps priced at Flatirons Acura were $775 installed, and I got mine for $450ish through Hondacuraworld and installed them in about an hour.
I've got the Blitzsafe Ipod interface, so I can't really comment on Acura's version.
Edit: As a side note, no need to post questions in multiple areas/threads. Just get it in here once, and everyone will find it. |
