My tranny was in for replacement and the dealer didn't have the code to unlock it. Anyways he wanted to charge an hour of labour to remove and unlock. Anyways I took the radio out myself and gave hime the serial number ( BA006273) On the honda dealer web site this serial number does not have an unlock code listed.

What can I do? I am the second owner and have called the PDI dealer who didn;t record it unfortunatly. :1:

Scroll through the replies on old thread and you'll get some good advice.

When I press 1 and 6 I get a s/n of U30006273. Still no code through dealer.
SuperTech
The unlock code is 25132

Thanks SuperTech. What is the deal with the dealers. They told me I had to take the radio out to get the S/N when all I had to do was press 1 and 6!! :3:

The radio has to be pulled on older models since the "1+6" trick wasn't designed in yet.

Can anyone please look up the codes for mine and my friend's cars:
s/n: 22005368, 30016660.
Thank you!

Post a picture of 'you and your friends' cars...

then maybe you can get the unlock codes!

BTW- These codes are designed to discourage the stealing of radios.

I think it is astounding that the dealer would charge you to fix what they screwed up- never mind it is easy to fix. Your radio worked when you came in- didn't work when you picked it up...for whatever reason it is their job to make it work, especially since their removal of power was the cause.

I am the second owner. I don't have the code. The dearler charged me full price for a new transmission then wanted to charge me another 95 dollars to unlock the radio code stating that it has to come out when later I found out that pressing 1 and 6 would do the same thing. I think Im justifed in blaming the dealer.

You are justified. Halgsr must work for a dealer. He is consistently pro dealer/anti consumer. I have remarked in the past that I still valued his input in spite of this. But now he is way out of line and I am beginning to wonder if he is here to help or just b*itch about the consumers who pay his salary.

Now if he is referring to nox who has only one post and is asking for two radio codes I can understand his reluctance. But he should just state the obvious instead of making it sound like we all just blame the dealers for everything.

Did the dealer disconnect the battery?

If so, why did he not restore the radio code and presets? Lexus does this, Infiniti does this...

IN FACT, the acura service manual SPECIFICALLY REQUIRES THE MECHANIC TO GET THE CODE AND WRITE DOWN THE PRESETS!!! In my serivce manual page 14-144 step 5.

Failure of a dealer to follow the manual is indefensible - might be done all the time, but once discovered it is might hard to defend.

So in this case, the dealer IS the a$$hole.

A

PS My battery just died. My wfe and 14 year old son replaced it. Radio was locked. She tried 5 times to enter the code, then gave up. Good thing since the radio was repalced under warranty. While I was driving the car I just called the dealer, nice as pie chit-chatted to a service advisor- identified myself- he gave me the code from my old service record from 11/2004 and I entered it... $95?!? I'd be outraged. As bad as the guy trying to get codes for two stolen radios...

That is why we have master wheel lock sets in the shop that have all the different locks that are used by Acura. Many owners don't even rememebr that their car even has locks...let alone know where the key is.

If we do a repair that invloves power being disconnected and the code is easy to retrieve, it's done. No call to the customer asking where their card is that has the unlock codes. No charge to pull any radios out.

If we do a repair that involved power being disconnected and the code will not be easy to retrieve, the advisor calls for the code or gets authorizaion for the labor involved to pull out the radio. That's the way it is.

As far the guy with one post asking for two codes? Uh sorry pal, I'm not helping your chop shop/ebay store.

Same place the dealer gets it. In 30 seconds they punch the SN into the computer and it spits out the code.

Point is, leaving the customer with a functioning, AND TUNED radio is PART OF THE JOB!

But why would an acura mechanic ever read his precious service manual?

(Supertech excluded. :) )

I get the manual from Acura. Where do you get yours?

So. lets say you bring the car in for a service visit. This service includes tire rotation. Lets say you have wheel locks.... and you don't have the key... IS IT ACCEPTABLE FOR THE DEALER TO RETURN THE CAR TO YOU, NOT HAVE ROTATED THE TIRES, NOT MENTION THE LOCKS, AND CHARGE FOR THE SERVICE?

Perhaps an extreme case, but with the transmission the dealer should have told the owner: we need your radio code to program your radio presets- it locked up when we disconnected the battery- we can look it up but there is a fee. But to return the car with the radio not working shows they did a half assed job. Had they been up front about a 'lost code fee' it'd be a chickenspit charge, but defensible- once they returned the car with the dead radio they forfieted their position.

Remember, they were paid to recode the radio- they didn't do it and didn't tell the owner they couldn't do it. They took money from the owner to do something and then didn't do it - they defrauded the owner in a small way.

Hal- pick battles you can win, defend clients who are worth defending- this dealer was dead wrong.

Hmmm, a little burned out? I agree, the whole acura thing (or BMW or Infiniti) thing wears me a bit thin too.

These aren't Maybachs,...they're expensive Hondas. Fun, sometimes interesting, but not precious...

Glad I don't deal with the public...I can barely get along with you guys.

Halgsr...stick to the express lube side of the shop and stay off the internet. You're making the rest of us technicians look bad.

oh, yeah just rad your precious service manual and it will tell you all, i suppose it just lists all the radio codes for you right there, or maybe it knows the car you are working on and pops up on the cover,

where do you get these magical service manuals??

radio codes are just like wheel lock keys, they are the owners responsiblity, and should be stored in a safe place,

the dealer is only there to help when the customer screws up.

I just had to quote this for posterity, just in case halgsr gets booted out and his posts are erased.

Wow, you must have had a bad day, my friend, when you view the source of your income as screwballs that don't know jack about their precious $40 K vehicles. There are instances, as in the original poster's case, where the code is not in the current owner's possession and it takes, what, all of 10 minutes to help him out when you just did several hours billable labor, costing 10% of the vehicle's original sticker price.

Just some food for thought.

To clear things up, the radios aren't stolen at all. The 2 used cars were bought through an official Acura dealer and delivered to Russia. The batteries died during the delivery and both radios locked down. One of the codes was found later on the glove-box and the second's still required. The one written by the dealer in the owner's manual was wrong and he didn't give any cards. The service dealer asks for some documents I don't know the analogues to and I'm still trying to contact the place of purchase.
That's why I tried to ask for the codes here to avoid that burocracy.
Still hope SuperTech or someone can help. The serial number is 22005368. Being willing to prove that I'm not running an ebay store I can send the VIN, pictures of both cars or some other evidence via e-mail: just don't feel like posting it here.
Thanks in advance.

This morning, for no apparent reason, my MDX asked for the radio code. I have not been in for service or anything just lately, and the radio worked fine yesterday.

Why would it be asking me for the code now? This is the first time this has happened in the 15 months I've owned it.

Had to replace battery, radio locked up. After pressing preset 1 and 6 , U 3000 and L 6795 came up. Can anyone help me get the radio code? Thanks for any help.

I'm awful nervous about providing codes to people who just registered here and their only post is asking for a code.

Sorry. Go through the normal pain in the ass red tape ladem procedure of going to the dealer in person with proof of ownership of the vehicle.

Seems like the same bs that the dealer is giving me.Its funny , I have a 98 Mercedes and my local dealer handed me the radio code, after showing my registration. But with Acura dealers, no one mentioed about pressing 1 and 6 presets. Everyone wants to make the petty $110.00. How about the inconvience to my wife and our 3 young children? Then I come to this forum and same bs.

I did go to my local dealer, Kelly Acura in Danvers. Instead of helping me out , they told me they have to pull radio out to get serial number. Maybe i can post my registration. If the radio was stolen, why would I be posting in here?

I feel the pain of those who are getting the run around from their dealers!! Some of these advisors probably dont know of the quick way to get S/N. The amount of info I get from online forums for my cars, is way more than MOST advisors know. Note: when they dont know how to solve a problem, they charge you for trial & error!! Supertech seems like the type of Tech whom I would gladly pay the hourly rate for service on my X, since minor items like radio code he wont charge for. Do you guys use these dealers regualry; I think if the advisor had a relationship with you he/she would do it for goodwill!! Also, I think the seller of used cars should get the code for radios & navi from OEM dealership and provide to buyer when documentations is missing. Just my 2 pesos-LOL

That is totally out of line.

If you do not understand the anonimity of the internet and the number of folks scamming, then maybe you want to download this little application I have ( click here to download all your credit card numbers to me)

So, I can't help you out. Super works for a dealer, he can't help you out NOR SHOULD HE FEEL ANY OBLIGATION. THis isn't an 'unlock your readio codes for free here' thread.

You know what it takes. Serial number, proof of ownership.

Call up the Service Manager. Have a nice chat with him. Open with a honest statment of your relationship with the dealer (you''ve used them, whatever), then comment that you were quite dissapointed with how you were treated regarding this simple request. State that you had all the info needed to get this code, it was a 5 minute job to punch this into a computer, and the SA tried to charge you $110 for this common courtesy.

Do not get into an irate tirade.

See what he says.

Essentially you are setting the table for him to decide if any future goodwill and business from you is worth this 5 minute task.

The key is to be calm and rationale- if you do so, he can believe you might be a repeat customer- that his actions are 'saving' this matter. If you come of torqued up and spitting invectives, he knows you are already gone.

Christ, I never see a dealer for anything other than warranty- Dodge, Acura, BMW, Ford right now... and I rarely have issues with them, just need to manage them.

I can see your point and I can see you being upset with your dealership, BUT... it is not acceptable for your frustration to be taken out on this forum.

It is very informative and beneficial to members, people provide their best effort to help others but there are limits and reason given seemed very logical.

FYI,
Glenn Davis helped me out, And I thanked him.
For the others, I am sorry about the bs comment, its been an incredible frustrating period, especially since this is supposed to be a luxury car company, I didnt buy a Toyota Corolla. But Glenn just proved my point by being able to obtain the radio code without pulling out the radio, just like my 230 Mercedes. Now does anyone expect me to use Kelly Acura in Danvers, Ma, in the future for repairs?
They told me there is no way to get code without pulling radio. The service manager told me this over the phone, then 3 days later I personally went there with the car and he still maintained the same position. I was calm and nice, and they have the records that I was their before for preventive maintaince. This is the whole truth for anyone interested. My radio works now ,without pulling out radio, Thank You.

I'm sorry that not every dealership service advisor/tech/manager knows the 1+6 trick to get the serial number. Some of these characters are too "old school" for their own good. They don't know that the newer Hondas and Acuras have this shortcut built into the radio. American Honda informed us of this trick with a paltry monthly newsletter. A publication that many just glance through and forget half the content after a month. I wouldn't be surprised if I have people at my own dealership that don't know it.

Fact remains is that if your radio were to be stolen, would you want the thief to be able to activate it and get use out of it merely by calling up the dealer on the phone with the serial number or taking a stab at getting it from an online forum? When I get a code from the American Honda service site, I have to enter my social security number and employee number to prove that I am in fact someone who should be getting access to that code...what makes you think that you get to circumvent that?

JD-

Hang out here for a while- if you plan to keep your MDX... you will learn plenty, and hopefully not get bent over by the dealer.

You might consider recalibrating your thinking on this being a 'luxury marque'... I've gotten over that a while ago. It is an expensive Honda- that's all.

Glad it worked out. I know how frustrating it can be!

I would like to put a good word in for Chris @ Feder's Acura in Middletown, NY. My mdx was purchased there 2 owners ago and I called up today to get the codes, faxed my DL and registration and was given the codes right away.

Odds of me ever getting service there is slim or none as my information showed because I'm 2000+ miles away, but they helped anyway.

my question is for supertech, i have a 2002 mdx and my battery came dead and the radio is asking a code, i try the 1+6 to have the serial number, but nothing. does my mdx is too old for this trick. so if it is do i need to get the radio pulled of the dash

Hi,
This is my first post to this forum and no I am NOT looking for radio code :-) YET!

I am buying 2003 MDX from a friend.
I will get the car tomorrow.
Reading all these notes I realized I should get the radio code written down at home in case the battery dies in the future.

So while everything is working what should I do to avoid future problem?

I will ask the owner if he knows it already.
I guess 1+6 key is just to get SN without pulling the radio out.

Thanks,
Robert

HI,
I too had a radio shut down after my battery went dead on my 2005 MDX. After reading through the posts I recovered my S/N :30000618.
I'd greatly appreciate it if you could send me my radio code or post the tel. number that can provide this info.

Thanks in anticipation
