Seat Leather Doomed? (56K warning) - Click HERE for Original Thread

Okay, today I moved a small radio from one of my homes to another and placed it on the front passanger's chair. Little did I know that this radio had batteries in it that appeared to be leaking! Well, I didn't notice it until an hour or two once I had completed the move and to my horror found what seemed like Cola on my seat. I cleaned it with water then with leather cleaner and attached is what I am left with. The areas are hard and seem to have shrunk (based on the perforated leather) and you can hopefully see the texture in the picture.

1. Any miracle salvage cream?
2. What will this cost to fix/replace? THE WHOLE SEAT???

Thanks for the help!

Sorry about the last couple of pictures; it appears that acuramdx.org has a limit as to how many or what size the pictures can be. Had to host the others on Photobucket and they scaled them down:(

Sorry no such thing as a miracle salvage cream for that type of damage(if there was I would be out of business!!) But the seat absolutely can be repaired!! I make repairs like that all the time even in perforated leather. Ask your dealer who they use for their vinyl and leather repairs. The fact that the leather has shrunk makes it a little more complicated but it is still a somewhat easy fix for someone who is good at it. I would charge about 65.00 for this type of repair and it would be 100% permanent and ALMOST invisible, you may be able to see where the repair was if you looked really close but most people would never notice it. Hope that helps.

You need to shrink your pictures. That is lower the number of bits so that the whole picture can be seen in one frame.

Thank you very much for the information! How is it repaired by the way? Are the affected leather panels replaced? I wonder if the inspector at lease end would notice the repair/damage?

Anyway, I am very greatful and will ask my dealer ASAP.

Yes, sorry about the pictures being so large but I wanted to provide as much detail as possible so that an expert (which I was lucky to find in cvyluv) could tell me if anything could be done.

I actually cropped the pictures from their original size:2: I guess if you have a smaller monitor (or a lower resolution set on a larger one) it must really ANNOYINGLY get cut off. Sorry about that; I'll have to remember next time.

About what size (in pixels) can an image be in size (WxH) so that it can fit on most monitors (COMPLETELY) in case I need to do this again and high detail isn't required.

Thanks!

No the damaged panels would not be replaced with my type of repair. Basically without boring you too much the process would involve stripping off the damaged leather surface to the raw leather underneath and then refinishing it. If the person was good at his trade there is no way that it would be a problem at a lease turn in inspection.

Well, it definitely can't get any worse. I'm definitely giving it a shot if I can find someone to do it; too bad you're in SD.

Thanks a million (or however much that seat is worth) though!:2:
