I bought my 06 Acura MDX touring last week and my avg mpg for my first full tank was 14.7. That was rather disappointing. I live in the DFW area and not out in the country. Is this normal for a brand new vehicle and it should get better or is something else that I should be looking at. Any suggestions will be most welcome.
Thanks

:( Forgot to mention, that the dealer put 87 octane. I filled up the same a few days ago.

You have to average AT LEAST three full tanks to know what is happening. Base your calculations on actual mileage and actual fuel put in the tank. Check the onboard computer against this figure. That will tell you what is happening AT THAT TIME. From one time to another the computer can and does vary.

The mpg will possible increase over the first few thousand miles as the vehicle is broken in.

Are you driving city or highway?
Are you running the A/C full blast since it's the middle of summer?
Do you accelerate quickly from a stop?

All of the above factors greatly impact mpg.

I usually get around 14-16mpg in the city and 20-21mpg highway.
From my experience, 87 or 91 octane gas makes no difference in mpg.

I purchased an '06 back in late January. I am averaging about 16-18 in town around 21-22 on the highway. I have now about 6,000 miles and running 87 octane fuel. Your's will get better with mileage. GOOD LUCK!!:welcome:

I drive in the city - pretty well paved roads and yes the past few days the temp has hit 100+, so I do run A/C though not in full blast - set the climate control to 72 degrees.
Glad to know 91 octane dont make a difference in mpg atleast :)

Thanks

Octane rating of the fuel that you use CAN make a difference in your miles per gallon. Just how much is open to debate. It will have some effect. To use the lower octane and not pre-ignite the timing must be retarded from stock. Retarding the timing will most like cause some minor loss in economy.

Don't worry, I had the same problem when I got my MDX. As you drive your car; for some reason your mpg will go up.

When I first got the car I probably did average about 14 mpg but now average well over 16 in the city almost 100%.
