I have a 2001 MDX which I love. However, I have to transport 6 kids to carpool. I have a 7 year old who is 55 lbs. For carpool reasons, I would like to be able to put him in the front seat with a booster seat. I understand that the airbag will shut off if under 65 lbs, but I never see a notice that it is shut off. I see the "Side Airbag Off" light frequently when I have something heavy against the door, but I have never seen the "Front airbag shut off" light. Is it safe to have him in the front? How can I know that the airbag is truly off? I appreciate any feedback!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there's any indicator light to say that the front airbag is off due to weight.

Anyway, I wouldn't feel safe transporting ANY kid below 100 lb in the front seat.

I do not know about thw 2001's, but my 2004 will light up and say Air Bag Off anytime I have a light load in the passenger seat. I carry material there frequently.

Hmmm. My side airbag off light goes on often when my kids are in the front seat (they are 9 and 12). I figured it was because they were blocking something between the seat and the door and the system therefore shut itself down. It now occurs to me that maybe its because they are light. It also happens sometimes if I have stuff in that seat (like a cooler). Hadn't given it much thought before this. Maybe the light load is the explanation, rather than something blocking the airbag from deploying. Who knew.

The few times I used a booster seat for my kids in the front seat (car full, separation, whatever), I used a booster that has no back. That way I knew they were sitting as far back as an adult and felt that the airbag shouldn't do any undue harm to them (airbags hurt - don't get me wrong - I've experienced them before).

Mama, if you live in Norcal and want a booster seat w/out a back on it, I have one hanging in my garage that I never use any more. You are welcome to it.

if the side airbag light is on then it wont go off, if it is off then the airbag will deploy,.

that is the only way of knowing., and dont forget that the pass. airbag has 2 charges in it and will inflate much larger than the drivers.
