I had the transmission replaced in December/05 on my '02 MDX. Since then, I have logged about 15k KM or 9300 miles on the new transmission.
My questions are:
1) When would I have to do a transmission fluid change?
I assume the fluid would have been completed removed and new fluid put in when the transmission was put back together.
2) Did the VTM4 fluid also get drained and refilled when the tranny was replaced?
Thanks. |

Personally, i would change ATF more frquently on an older X, to the tune of every 5 to 7K miles, then do a triple drain and fill every 15K or so. There's not any data to back this up, but it won't hurt anything except your checkbook.
I wouldn't presume to know if the dealer changed anything when they replaced your tranny but it would be logical to at least fill up the ATF. |

Is there a thread provides instructions on drain & fill the tranny fluid? I did a search and did not find any how-tos on tranny fluid change. Any inout is greatly appreciated.
I have done it on other cars, and I am not sure i can apply the same principle to MDX.
1. Locate the tranny fluid drain plug.
2. Drain the fluid
3. Replace the washer and seal the drain plug to the tranny
4. Fill the appropriate amount tranny fluid via the inlet of the tranny oil dispstick
5. Done
Can I assume that is the same process with MDX?

You've got it mostly right. See this old thread for some pics. It's a pretty lengthy one - just scroll to the the last few pages. Get a turkey baster.
:D
Btw, the search term may be ATF instead of tranny or transmission fluid. |
