New twist on VTM & Check Engine Lights - Click HERE for Original Thread

Through my 40-something years, I've owned about a dozen cars, but I've never had this happen so early in a car's life:

New '06 MDX, one week since delivery, 500 miles. Yesterday after a normal short trip I went to start it up and the VTM, VSA, and check engine lights came on. Backed it our of the garage but it would not accelerate in any forward gears- engine wouldn't rev nor move! Turned it off and let it sit, and ten minutes later the same thing happened. About 15 minutes after that, the VSA & VTM lights were out but check engine light was on. It's now at the dealer's for diagnosis.

Is the fact this happened so early in the car's life a bad sign? I bought Acura precisely to avoid the multiple trips to the dealer syndrome that afflicted my Chevy Suburban so.

If they cannot fix it right off, do I have a claim to ask for a replacement after only 500 miles of use? Thanks, all...

It's unlikely that any car manufacturer will give you a replacement because of what they call "initial quality" problems. However, your state probably has "lemon laws" specifically for this type of problem with a new car. Check your State Attorney General's, and DMV, websites for details.
There are usually requirements like "number of service visits for the same problem" or "time your vehicle was in service during the first x months" or both. NY and others add "any major defect in the first x months" where major defect means replacing the engine or transmission or other big component.
This may be a really easy problem to fix, so don't sweat it yet. Manufacturers really really don't want to have a car tagged as a lemon on it title, so they may be eager to negotiate a new car or refund if you ever do file a notice of lemon law claim.
Whatever you do, do it in writing.

Thanks, Shootist, for the reply. So far the dealer has been above board and states they've never seen that particular OBD code at their service dept. Hopefully this will have a happy ending.

Gasmeister keep us posted. I had similar symptoms, but my MDX is much older than yours. See: http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...&threadid=25430

Did they tell you what the code was?
