Rutgers shocks #3 Louisville. I was amazed to find out that Rutgers played in the first ever college football game some 130+ years ago, I think against Princeton.
This opens the door for Auburn, Florida, Texas, USC, Cal, and even Notre Dome as the top one loss teams.
With USC playing 3 ranked teams (Oregon, Cal, Notre Dame) in it's final 4 games, they have a good shot to move up if they win out. |
|

| The Rutgers game was a GREAT game to watch. I would like to see a bowl game between Rutgers and Boise State who both have a good shot at being undefeated at year's end. |

epic OSU/Michigan game for both the Big Ten and BCS Championship
It is very possible that both of these teams could play again
in Glendale for the BCS championship.

I have no problem with USC#3,but the
biggest joke is ND.Lets see they have played 2 teams ranked in the BCS top 27 and how did they do?Barely beat GaTech and were
DESTROYED AT HOME by Michigan. What a joke if they were
to make it to the BCS title game, but hopefully USC will put an end
to any pipe dream that ND has at this time! |

Well I am biased but I think there is little chance of that. Even if Michigan loses, how could a voter justify ranking a one-loss ND team ahead of a one-loss Michigan team given the head-to-head (it wasn't a close game at all on ND's home turf). Granted ND would have a nice road victory but that's not enough to overcome the other evidence. I am not advocating a rematch unless it comes down to ND or Michigan b/c ND going would be a shame. |
|
|
| JimH |
| The only scenario I see where ND could be in the national title game is if ND wins out (beats USC as one of the games), Florida loses another game, and the Michigan/Ohio State game is a blowout game ( like 42 - 7 or so). Either ND or USC will have at least 2 losses since they play each other, and who knows about Florida? |
|
|
| cycler15 |
2 big games this weekend.
Ohio State / Michigan. No need to go into more detail on what's at stake here.
USC / Cal. If USC wins, they can do no worse than the Rose Bowl (and of course still be on track for their third straight trip to the BCS title game. If Cal wins, they can make the Rose Bowl for the first time in something like 60+ years. |

I'd like to see them play again for the national title. After the game last night, OSU would be pretty scared I think since they could have (should have) lost that one....if it wasn't for the stupid blow to the head out of bounds by Michigan allowing that OSU drive to continue and score, Michigan wins. Had the game been at Michigan, with over 100,00 fans as well, I'd bet a lot of $$$ that Michigan wins.
No way is Florida or USC #2....too many close calls for both teams this year against weaker teams. And Michigan already blew away ND this year at ND. |
|
|
| buckeye1 |
Carguy, why would OSU be afraid to play Michigan again?Didn't
OSU torch your defense for over 500 yards?Do you have anyone that can cover our receiver sets?Oh yeah I almost forgot TROY SMITH
OWNS MICHIGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
|
|
| cycler15 |
If USC wins out, I believe they'll pass Michigan in the BCS rankings. They are already #2 in the Harris and USA Today polls, and will move up in the computer rankings with 2 more wins.
http://cfn.scout.com/2/592446.html
No one wants to see a rematch. If you can't win your own league, why should you play for the national championship? |

Hey, I'm unbiased Gopher fan. I really think Michigan would win in a rematch. It took a couple fluke long rushing touchdowns and help from MU stupid penalties for OSU to beat them at home, so on neutral turf, I like Michigan. But like cycler says, I think USC will get the game if they win out. |
|
|
| JimH |
I thought that Michigan made 2 blunders: 1. The stupid penalty towards the end of the game which let Ohio State eventually score, 2. Michigan stating they could beat Ohio State the next time.
Michigan had their shot at winning , and see no reason for them to play Ohio State again. While Michigan may in fact be the 2nd best team in the nation, I believe the title game will go to another team such as USC, or Florida if they can win their remaining games. |

Its only natural for Michigan fans to state they deserve a
rematch with OSU,and I truly believe that they are indeed the second best team this year.BUT,if you don't win your conference
you should not be allowed to play for National Championship. If USC
wins its last 2 games then they deserve to go,if USC loses a game then I think Michigan should play.Forget about ND,even if they beat USC,no honest pollster could put them above Michigan(did you forget about the drubbing at ND back in September)? |

Agree, just like 3 yrs ago, Oklahoma had no business being in the BCS Title game after getting drubbed by Colorado in the Big 12 championship game. But what about this scenario:
USC beats ND, but loses to ucla, and
Florida beats FSU, but gets spanked by Arkansas.
If Arkansas ends up 11-1, can they be denied a shot at Ohio St ?!?!?
I'm not a SEC sympathesizer, but how can a 1 loss SEC champ not be in the BCS title game . . . |
|
|
| JimH |
These last few weeks are about as close to a playoff system as you can get during the end of the regular season. Using the rankings of the current BCS Poll, you had/have the following playoff system:
1. OSU (1) X Michigan (2)---Won by OSU
,
2. USC (3) X ND (5) this coming week,
3. Florida (4) X Arkansas (6) in two weeks.
The losers of games 2. and 3. above are out of contention. It is then up to the pollsters to determine who goes between the winners of games 2 & 3, or whether a rematch between OSU and Michigan will happen. |
|
|
| socalJD |
| ^^^ The issue with your analysis is that there are other games in between. IE this weekend, Florida needs to get past FSU & Arkansas has to get past LSU to maintain their high rankings going into the SEC title game. Also, USC still needs to dispatch ucla should they beat the Irish this weekend. Only constant is Ohio St & Michigan are done and cannot gain or lose 'style' points . . . |
|
|
| cycler15 |
USC torches Notre Dame and moves up to #2 in the BCS. Notre Dame is so overrated this year. They only beat one decent team (Georgia Tech) and got killed in their 2 big games against top opponents.
All that stands between USC and Ohio State for the national title is UCLA.
Fight on! |
|
|
| buckeye1 |
As a loyal Buckeye fan I could not agree more,ND is a joke!!!
An OSU/USC matchup would be great,it would bring back a fantastic rivalry that has been dormant since going to the BCS format. |

I agree about a potential Ohio St - USC title game matchup, but it really should be in the Rose Bowl, the historic site where epic Woody Hayes vs John McKay contests were held. Somehow the 'Tostitos Fiesta' bowl just doesn't do justice to this storied and classic rivalry . . .
BTW, you do know we have a home-home series scheduled for '08 & '09, the BCS title game would be a nice prelude to this renewed rivalry . . . |
|
|
| carguy1234 |
| Did anybody else notice that in the 2nd half, the clock operator was letting the time run down even on incomplete passes, and some out of bounds plays (I'm talking about the game clock, not the play clock)? This happened several times that I noticed. Had no bearing on the outcome since USC was clearly the superior team, but I'm wondering if there was some rule change, or if the clock official was just having an off night? Might have happened more than that, but I just noticed it a few times. |

Ole ND only has to be in the top 14 of the BCS poll to be eligible for one of the top 4 bowl games---what a deal. Will be interesting to see whom they play?
Yup, and because there is a BCS rule that no more than 2 teams from each conference can be in BCS bowls, that means deserving teams like Wisconsin or Auburn will probably get left out for an overrated ND team that has a special contract. What a joke. ND doesn't deserve to be in the top 14. |
|
|
| buckeye1 |
As stated earlier ND is a joke, but $$$ rules. The BCS bowls
want the teams that will generate the bucks and like it or not ND can generate money. Its not fair but thats the way it is:mad:
Whatever team plays ND(except for the Big East and ACC)will
BLOW them out.Look at some of the choices,Michigan, would be just a repeat performance,FLA and LSU(ND would have a very hard time scoring).Thank God that OSU does not have to play them again it would be so boring and this is coming from Buckeye1(Troy and the boys would probabaly hang 50 points on them.:o |

Looks like only Florida (if they can win tonight) or Michigan will get to play Ohio State for the Championship now.
USC did not look good today, while UCLA played pretty good. |

I don't think so. How can you bring up the past when we're talking about the present? MORE TRADITION?! ARE YOU JOKING ME?!?! Please don't even get me started on that one! Wow, you sound like one of those Notre Dame groupies. All I'm saying is, is that your team was over-rated this year just like Notre Dame, Penn State, Iowa, Florida, Auburn, Arkansas, Cal, Tennessee (btw, i'm just listing random teams now...). Basically, this is what it boils down to:
TWO BEST TEAMS IN THE NATION ARE FROM THE BIG TEN
THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY
AND
*CHOKE*
THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
FLORIDA WILL GET BLOW OUT OF THE WATER, AND THE GATORS BETTER GET READY TO TAKE COVER BECAUSE WE WILL STOMP ON THEIR NECKS SO HARD. |

I like the way this is shaping up for the home vs home series starting in 2008. Too bad 'SC choked and left the door open for Florida, I was sooo looking forward to a Ohio St/USC title game (sigh). Assuming that OSU holds form (Smith winning the Heisman and OSU beating Florida), OSU would have 8 Nat'l championships & 7 Heismans, compared to USC's 11 Titles & 7 Heismans (ND also has 11 titles & 7 Heismans). I see a new intersectional rivalry forming here . . .
Btw - we're gonna do you a favor and knock off Meeechigan in the Rose Bowl . . . |

What a Fiesta Bowl game last night! That was fun to watch. Reminded me of last year's Rose Bowl between Texas and USC.
22 points in the last 86 seconds is amazing.
Boise State played their heart out and had a coach that was a genious in play calling.
Will they be number 1 if Florida beats Ohio State??? Should they be??? |

One of the best games of all time. The last two minutes were the most exciting of any game ever.
Funny thing about Peterson (1st Year), Boise's coach , is that he was more conservative than Hawkins was in previous years. That is until last night.
Oklahoma had the better team but Boise played a better game and Oklahoma was out coached.
No way will Boise be #1 if Florida wins. They should have a chance at the winner of Ohio/Florida to determine #1. Will be interesting to see where they are ranked after next week. |

The Gators have had a rocky road to this final playoff and have just barely won several games this season. They only need one more "barely win" to WIN it ALL!!
Maybe they do just enough to make the win and that is OK by me.
I think it will be a fun game to watch no matter what happens.

Poor ND,having to play a real team and not
a second rate team.A quick review,last year:ND lost 34-20 and gave up 617 yards,this year lost 41-14 but only surrendered 577 yards.
WHAT a joke, deserving teams dont get into a BCS bowl and yet ND
makes it w/o a snowballs chane in HECK of winning.
Even if you're an ND supporter you have got to admit that ND has
not belonged in these past two bowls.
Great fake Charlie, must be nice to have a 10 year security blanket
to be able to call a boneheaded play like that.Poor LOU HOLTZ
nothing to do for the next 8 months except tell everyone that ND is great. |
|
|
| JimH |
While I am a ND supporter (grew up in South Bend), I concur w/ your assessment. ND played 3 good teams all year and lost to all of them. I never saw so many WIDE OPEN receivers as LSU had in a game for a long time. That was one poor defensive game by the ND secondary. The QB for LSU put on a good show for the NFL scouts.
It could have been worse for ND---they might have had to play Boise State instead. |
|
|
| cycler15 |
I completely agree... ND is so overrated. The only reason they get into BCS bowl games is because of their BCS contract and that they are media darlings. Charlie Weiss hasn't won a big game in his 2 years there... how the hell did he deserve a 10 year contract renewal? Maybe next year they won't start in the rankings so high and miss a BCS bowl.
On a second note... USC destroyed Michigan. They only lose a few starters and should be preseason #1 team for next year. Next year's defense will be incredible... all starters are coming back. |
|
|
| BaldEagle |
| The significance of USC destroying Michigan has been overstated IMO. Until they lost to Ohio on the last game of the season they only played one ranked team and that was ND. |
