| I bought a 2006 MDX less than 10 days ago. Yesterday the Malfunction Indicator Lamp went on. The owner's manual said it might be due to loose fuel fill cap, though I recall I tried to tighten it up. After I retightened the cap, the lamp is still on. Does any one have the same problem? How long does it usually take for the lamp to go off? |

You do have to hear three clicks from the gas cap when you tighten it. Otherwise, the fuel system is not closed, and the sensors don't like it. The indicator light should go out the next time you start the car, though.
You have a new car under warranty. If the indicator light stays on, make an appointment with your dealer. |

I beleive the light does not go off unless reset or battery is disconnected.
The reason why the light can come on if a gas cap is loose or missing, the fuel system (EVAP) is pressurized. When it detects a leak, the check engine light will come on to warn you of a petential problem. The computer can't distinguish a leak from the evap system or if the gas cap is loose.
That light can be on for any number of reasons. Have you dealer check it out. |
