Looks like I will be getting the '06 Nav/Res before Sep 5th. Most internet quotes have a "Acura Protection Package" included - Trunk tray, splash guards and wheel locks.
I read that several people are getting body side moulding.
What are the most common accessories purchased with a new mdx?
Do many people get the side steps, rear tailgate deflector?
Will the dealers discount these items on an '06?
Thanks. |

most of the ones I see have them. |

Trunk tray = easily pulls out to dump spills.
Wheel locks = come on, they're OEM wheels.
Rear deflector = you have a rear wiper.
Hitch = what this vehicle was meant for. |

| Moonroof visor if you like riding with it open. Otherwise it sounds like a helicopter is in your vehicle! |

I recall you saying you have young grandkids, so with 2 pre-K boys, here are some suggestions:
- Side steps (Chrome or black): helps the lil' ones climb in/out of the X on their own.
- All weather mats: if you allow the lil' ones to eat/drink in the X, it will protect the carpet from spills, stains, etc.
- Cargo cover: (this should be standard, but isn't)
- Cargo tray: similar to the all weather mats, protects the cargo area from spills, dirt or scratches.
- Full size spare: (again should be standard) the dealer may not have one, but you can easily find one of ebay or this forum from another member. The mini spare is a joke and has no business on a 4,500+ lb SUV . . .
- Body side molding: I think these are a must, but others don't like to mess up the 'lines' of the Mdx. Not sure how anal you are, but I hate the idea of paint chips or dings on my car caused by others who carelessly fling their car doors open. Depending on your color, you can choose the current 'wide' moldings, or the narrow ones from '01-03. I went with the narrow since it offers protection and are the least 'intrusive' on the styling.
- Front air deflector: Again a must if you don't like having rock chips or dings on the hood. Don't get the Acura OEM, most members here chose the FormFit which is a 3rd party supplier in Canada. Some folks don't like the look of a front air deflector, it is an acquired taste, but it's better than having your hood covered with rock chips and dings.
Well that's my short list off the top of my head. I'm sure others will chime in if I've missed anything crucial . . . Good luck. |

socalJD and others,
Thanks for the info. I am sure the dealer is not going to deal any further with me. Do you recommend the dealer for the add ons or aftermarket companies.
The side steps and hood deflector are a given. I may try to get the mats at the last minute.
I will probably drive 400 miles to get this car. The close in guys don't have many and don't want to deal. I'm after a touring/nav/dvd in Sage/Quartz. |

All that stuff is pretty easy to install. Running Boards are the only thing that will take some patience, but they are still easy...just get two people!!!!
All that being said, I would go online andf find your accessories. You can get OEM parts for pretty good deals, and if you are getting a lot, they will mosty likely waive shipping charges. Otherwise, take you quotes into the Dealers Parts Department and they will come close to matchig the prices! |

Tim, at hondaacuraworld.com, is a sponsor of this site. His prices (which include shipping and avoid tax for non-NY) will be the lowest you'll find anywhere. Service is excellent, too.
Try the internet for the Weathertech mats.
(I swear by the side moldings. I've gone 30,000 miles without a ding, and I live in a mean place.)
BTW, TIm is also offering a straight $5,000 discount on 06 MDX's, in Buffalo New York. |

I found a dealer that will sell me an '06 MDX w/Nav and Dvd for under $37,000. I have to drive over 400 miles to pick it up but I have until the end of the month to close. A $500 credit card charge will hold it. I ran the VIN # thru another dealer as a cross check that we were on the same page and it appears that I caught someone at the right time. Most internet offers are $1,000 higher. I locked up a Sage/Quartz model, but, have some latitude to change colors.
Now I need to decide on the accessories. Sounds like the dealer needs to install the side molding as a mininum.
Thanks to all. It took less than a week to research, decide, and find the deal. |

| IMHO, the only accessory that you cannot easily do yourself is the side steps - that was a PITA to install. Like Shootist said, I got most of my accessories from Hondacuraworld.com (Tim), so check out the website for pricing. Show the dealer the price for sidesteps from Tim and negotiate him down to have it installed with your purchase. If the dealer can match some of the other items you want, go for it otherwise get them from Tim. Like I mentioned, you don't want the Acura front air deflector - this you should definitely get from Tim. But stuff like the Cargo tray, Cargo cover, all weather mats, etc, require zero or lil' installation skill and are usually much cheaper from Tim. Also, since you're going with Sagebrush, you have a choice b/w the wide or narrow side moldings. Research this and choose accordingly. DIY installation of the narrow moldings from Tim are alot easier than it looks. Good Luck . . . |
