Normally I'd ask this question over at bobistheoilguy but I got into a scuffle with the moderator so I cant post there. :8: ;)
Anyway, has anyone done a UOA (used oil analysis) on a 5w20 oil on the mdx ?
Recently I did a couple of samples of oil analysis to see how things were going. As you can see in the pic the first one didn't come back fine. It indicated excessive wear. So to make sure that there was really nothing wrong with the engine we did another sample at about 2400 miles on a different oil and it came out fantastic!
So I am thinking if the oil that I used (motorcraft 5w20) was too light for this engine or was just a one time freak incident ? Although the viscosity was holding up pretty good. Another variable in the equation is - that was the only one time I did not take my own oil to the shop and had them put in whatever they had.
The second sample was Valvoline Synpower 5w30. |

Wow.
later I did find a couple of uoa's for this vehicle and Xw20 oil on bitog and wear wasn't significant.
Thanks for sharing this. If you could also share uoa's for the trans and rear diff that'd be great! |

Here are the UOA's. The transmission fluid was completely changed (ie complete flush- not a drain refill) after seeing that the aluminum levels were just at the abnormal level of 25 ppm.
I've just recently changed the rear diff and also sent a sample of VTM4 for VOA. Will have the results shortly.
