just curious how the dealer came up with the trade-in value? how do i know if there are more rooms for me?

i was only quoted $33,800 - 3,500 miles, black/black with Nav, RES, running board, fender flares, side molding, spolier, front and rear bumper guard ...

any ideas/thoughts would be appreciated!

Need a lot more data to even guess if you got a good trade. Need to know what you traded on and all of the costs associated with that. What would have been the cost of your new vehicle without a trade? Where are you located? etc. etc.

A trade in value is very artificial. What I always do is first get the cost of the new vehicle WITHOUT a trade. That is just a straight cash purchase. THEN I ask what they would give on trade. This tells you the amount that they are actually allowing. It is very rare that I have ever done a trade when I find out the REAL amount that they are giving.

here is how they came up with it...and I preface this with saying, they were pretty fair on your value.

Net Cost on the MDX you are trading is 36676.25 (assuming it was assigned after aug 1st-Dest. charges went up $65.00). Most dealers will sell close to that number, but assuming they do not and stop at say 37500.

33800 for yours. they will certify it---$515.00. Whatever their labor is to do the Certification Inspection (Acura REQUIRES this no matter the mileage) somewhere around $125.00. Oil Change-$$45.00. If they are corporate owned, a pack of something like $300.00....so, total cost when it hits the lot.....34740.00....approximately.

so we have "approximately" a $2700 difference between the brand new one and yours. They will try to sell it for the same as a new one, because of the accessories and the ceritification......they may even be succesful. Here is why they are where they ultimately are......99% of dealers, have to turn their used car inventory every 60-90 days. If it does not retail, then they have to wholesale, and I can tell you, there are very few of us that would be interested in this vehicle as dealers....so his wholesale options will be limited and would have a hard time getting out of it without a loss.

All that being said....could you get a little more for it....yes, you might, dependning on all variables undisclosed...but you are talking about maybe $34500? $35000 would be AWESOME. So you can get a little more, but you are definitely going to have to work for it
