I am trying to purchase a 2006 MDX Touring w/Nav and RES. I offered 3 dealers $37000 for car. The lowest I could get one of the dealers was $38742. He claims he is making $499 profit on sale. He is giving the $2500 allowance but keeping the holdback, claiming that is house operating budget money. Should I wait to the end of the month? Any other techniques I may employ?
KPK
I was quoted $36788 for 2006 tour/nav/RES at power bay acura in Torrance, CA.

Talk to Jerry Ede.

It is legit for the dealer to keep the hold back money. The base cost of the MDX with NAV & RES is $37,997. You should be able to buy one for this price no problem.

How did you arrive at that number? Is it the net dealer cost plus the holdback?

Invoice on that vehicle is listed on Edmunds at $40,497 and there is a $2500 marketing allowance from Acura bringing the cost down to $37,997.

The chance of you getting into the dealer's hold back money is very slim.

My personal thoughts are that the other price listed on this post is total BS.

Thanks,

Do you think paying $499 for "profit" above the holdback money is outrageous, or just market demand here in NE

I don't think that it's "outrageous" but I do think that you should offer invoice less the $2500 marketing cash and they should accept.

Good luck!

Echo,

What makes you think that $36788 for tour/nav/dvd is BS ?

Net Cost for Touring w/ NAv/DVD is 36621.25. Maybe if the dealer has too many 2006 Xs to get rid off, he will cut into his profit.

Cut into his profit??

I don't think that ANY dealer would agree to a net, net profit of $166 on a $44,000 + vehicle.

Dealers will and do sell vehicles at their net invoice cost all the time but very seldome cut into their hold back. $166 net, net profit on ANY vehicle is rediculous.

Produce a final sales agreement/contract at that price and I'll believe. Otherwise the price you were quoted is total BS.

I just paid $37k for an '06 w Nav and RES. Dealer said it's because their allocation of '07's depends on how many '06's they sell. This is in the Bay area not NH and there seems to be tons of inventory. I was also quoted $37.5 via email by 3 different dealers. Why someone would basically another poster a liar when he has nothing to gain I don;t quite understand.

Try buying one down here in South East Louisiana. Only two dealers within 100 miles. Walker Acura in New Orleans will almost not even negotiate. Their best offer on an 06 touring w/out the nav or res was $400 off msrp! I went 50 miles away, got a quote for 38K, Walker says they can;t even touch it. Both dealers are overstocked, it seems, but they won't budge. To top it off, I had to go to Wlaker three times before I could get a test drive. FIrst two times was told I'd have to wait about 30 minutes for a saleman. Last time I called and made an appointment.

It's not just Acuras here though. All the luxury car dealers are pretty much alone, with no competition. One BMW, one Merceded, one lexus, one volvo dealership and so on. Makes for high prices.

Dealers in California are indeed selling MDX's for below 37,000 + Fees. We are starting to run out, so prices are beginning to firm up some, but they are definitely aggressive and the price posted above is NOT "BS".

I have seen "Fish Stories" when it comes to car prices...this is not one of them. :D

If you want to try for holdback money, it'll have to be on a vehicle that hasn't been on the lot for very long or the bean counters won't allow it.

Echo,

I am not here to make a believer out of you and neither do I need to prove anything to you.

Do your research before questioning others.

Similar situation here - just one Acura/Honda dealer, one Lexus dealer, one BMW dealer, one MB dealer within 100 miles, and so on.

They usually don't deal, and I try to stay away from the dealership for negotiation unless we've agreed upon a price.

we will all believe.

I have done my research.....

Actual Sale Prices vary by state and region. KPK is from Calif....I guarantee his quote is real and accurate....we have sold many for that price...even a little less here in NorCal.

It is probably not a price available in your area Echo....so for you it is a "BS" price...but it is not a "BS" price around these parts.

Wow...you two are starting to sound like me and JEffK talking about leases!!!! :D Not to mention...it would be pretty tough to produce a Sales Contract on a message board! :D

I don't have any basis to join the fray other than here, in SW Michigan, I think prices like $37K for '06 touring/nav is also BS.

The nearest dealer to me is in Grand Rapids MI. They have an '06 touring/nav with ~10K miles on it listed for $37,995. I've told them about the forum claims of new purchases for $36,600, etc., and they chuckle and say - buy it, it's a great deal!!

Based on what I'm seeing around here, I should probably by an new '06 from Northern CA and have it shipped to me! That would save thousands.

I'm going to take a look at an '05 touring/nav/res with 13K miles this weekend in Columbus, OH. They are asking $33,900 and claim the price is firm. It has a couple of extras, like a spoiler, cargo tray, and cargo cover. If I like it, I may offer them $32K. It's dark green. Incidentally, what is Acura's name for dark green in the '05 model year and what do you all think of this color in person. In the picture, it just looks---well----green. If the vehicle is as good as they represent and I can get it for $32K, this would seem like a reasonable buy in these parts.

Thoughts from the knowledge base?

The name of the color, "Sage Brush Pearl", hasn't changed since I answered you here yesterday!

If I was located in a state that did not have 7 Acura Dealers within 45 minutes of each other, our prices would be much firmer as well. As far as buying it in NOR CAl and shipping it, we do it all the time for our neighboring states. outside of those states, it starts to get a little more difficult to do and the shipping costs start to balance out the price. The last one we did was for a customer in Utah. We do about 5-10 a year for Hawaii residents. Talk about a captive audience......one Acura Dealer on an Island. He just opened a second, so he owns both Acura Dealers in Hawaii. Not a whole lot of discounting going on around there!!!!! :D

Actually several sales contracts have been scanned and posted on these boards in the past. The names and VIN have been blacked out of course.

andreseng,

Sorry about double-dipping on the color question. I didn't see your initial response.

I thought sagebrush pearl was a lighter or medium green color. The color in the picture online looks like a very dark green metallic. The posting also describes the color as dark green. Is sagebrush pearl a dark green color?

Also, does anybody have an opinion as to how this looks in real life? I realize colors are subjective. I'm just a little squeamish about the word "green" showing up anywhere in the name of a vehicle color.

Is this a reasonably popular color for new and resale vehicles?
