I have a 2005 MDX Touring with approximately 14,000 mi. on it. Up until this point it has been troublefree and I really enjoy the vehicle.
Over the past several weeks I have noticed a very foul smell (musty) that comes from the front air conditioning vents when I first start up. It lasts for about 15-20 seconds but is very strong. The auto climate control runs on "full auto" all of the time. This started after a period of 2-3 weeks of very hot, humid weather in Upstate NY earlier this summer.
I am meticulous about keeping the cowl clean, never park under trees and keep it in the garage at night... nonetheless I have read that this problem is usually caused by a plugged condensate drain. I do see two spots on the ground (front and middle from the rear a/c) when I park after running the air conditioning though.
Is checking/cleaning the drain a DIY job on the MDX? Any other suggestions for getting rid of the smell? Could the cabin pollen/air filter be to blame here?
Thanks! |

Thanks... I did see that. I don't think it is a mouse family though... If I remember to shut the A/C off a few miles from home and run the fan on medium speed before I put it in the garage for the night I don't get the smell in the morning... even when I turn the A/C back on. |

Yeah, but you shouldn't have to do that with a new car. Tell the dealer how bad it is, and let them diagnose it. They may replace the cabin aircleaner, or even drop the internal AC vents and clean them. |

| Try running the heat on full blast for about 10-20 minutes. I've heard that "burns" the nasty stuff out of there. |
