I traded my 03 MDX Touring/NAVI for an 06. I had installed the Blitzsafe unit to use with my Delphi Ski-Fi 2 in my 03 MDX. I was very pleased with sound I was getting in my 03. Now that I have been driving my 06 for the past month, I have come to the conclusion that this in-built XM Radio does not have the same dynamics as my Sky-Fi2. The sound seems a bit muffled. It may not be an Acura issue at all, but rather over-compression of the audio and low bit rate transmission
They claim CD quality (16bit/44.1k) but that is simply not true
it's not really a matter of highs and lows so much as dynamic range (louder/softer). Am I imagining this or are there others experiencing the same characteristics? |

I find the XM quality to be outstanding. Dynamic range is "knock your socks off". I've heard more information from this radio than through any other stereo I've owned. (And I've owned everything from Dahlquist DQ10's to Magneplanars). So no, I don't find XM muddy or compressed.
I had the drum solo from The Beatles Golden Slumber all the way up to ridiculous last weekend. My stomach is still recuperating. |

| I am not impressed with XM either. It is not CD quality IMHO. |

| shootist, I am impressed, you hated the OEM system and changed the sound with good speakers. Maybe the good speakers you have are giving a better presentation of the XM. |

All keys area I like in a vehicles satisfied my taste and enthusiasm, even more with the MDX and that it includes the entire audio system but the AM not entirely. There will always be distortion when it comes to signal, that includes digital as well.
Just out of curiosty, have yours check with the dealers from what I seen at the dealership those that are displayed outside at the front, technicians/service staff grab parts from the *new* MDX just to fix current maintenance or problems, if parts are not available. If you bought a new one, parts may not seem new. |

I hated the OEM system in my 2003. I put Infinity 6002 in, and hated those, too.
The stereo in the 2005 was OK to start- much better than the 2003. However, with the CDT speakers, it is the best "semi-stock" stereo I'[ve ever had in a car. |

BirminghamMDX:
Thank you for you post because I have the same concern. We have a 2006 MDX and Odyssey with XM and the MDX XM sucks. I too have had XM in 3 other cars and sounded great. Have you talked to your dealer? I was wondering if it's the same part between the 2 cars and was going to swap. The MDX audio system is great with CDs, but FM actually sounds better. It has to be the XM receiver would be my guess.
What do you think? |

Wrath,
I have not checked with dealer. I have done some research on XM as a whole. XM is using different compressions for different XM channels. They are broadcasting "X" number of channels over "X" number bandwidth. To fit everything, some channels will not have the same bandwidth as others. I am sure this is based channel popularity. I know as far as marketing, they want to toot their whistle of having the most channels, but that scenerio will affect sound quality. |

Does anyone have any suggestions in terms of an aftermarket XM setup for an '04 w/navi? I just traded an '01 with an XM Commander w/Blitzsafe and am wondering if there is a better setup out there...I'm not looking for anything removable.
I also have an '04 TL w/XM built-in and am worried that nothing I put in the X is going to sound as good...thanks for input! |
