My dealer called yesterday and aksed what I wanted since he had to order 12 new 2007 MDX by the end of the day:
Choices:
1. MDX(same as the old Touring)
2. MDX-Tech Navi
3. MDX-Tech Nav & Entertainment
4. MDX-Sport - Navi
5. MDX-Sport - Navi & Enterainment
The Sport has some kind of adjustable suppension.
I orderd:
MDX-Sport - Navi, Dark Cherry Pearl, Ebony Interior
He did have small color samples, and tried to explain the differences over the phone, but still a big leap of faith on what they will look like.
He knew nothing else about cylinder deactivation or what was in the Tech version and the Sport version. I wanted to know about the exterior looks and wheel differences in the Tech and Sport, but he knew nothing.
It seems we will see info on Sep 1, 2006 about the choices. He did have a viewing of the car scheduled for Oct 14.
This will be my 3rd MDX. |

Way to go Steameng8! Another MDX! My MDX is still fairly young so I get to keep it for a few more years. We are getting the wife a new 2007 TL in the fall.
It's nice to see another old-timer like me still hanging around this forum. :D |

Interesting that one would make such a big purchasing decision on so little information, although I do understand your desire: I ordered my first one sight unseen in Jan. 2001, when there was a 4-month waiting list. I did, however, have the benefit of the Motor Trend review and a brochure from the dealer. |

The key is to make the deposit non-refundable. I "ordered" an MDX in May 2000, five months before they shipped. I had it written into the order that the $500 deposit was based on my test drive and decision to purchase the vehicle, and the deposit was fully refundable.
I figured that I'd either like it and go ahead and buy it, or just say "no thanks" and buy something else. The day I picked up the MDX, I did a second test drive of the ones I was comparing it against. Obviously, I liked the MDX more!
Congratulations steameng! Please post a photo of your new ride when you get it! |

"The 2007 Acura MDX will have two options for the upcoming model year. There will be the base model and a "sport" version. This is the same terminology for the 2007 TL, which will presumably be called the type-S version. With close to 300hp, Acura reps are saying the company's main target for the upcoming MDX will be the Porsche Cayenne. Is Acura aiming a little to high up the performance line and not enough towards its' customer base or is this what the company should be heading toward. The MDX as it sits is one of the finest road going SUVs on the market, with very sedan like qualities and handling capabilities, not to mention loads of options and safety features. I understand through people in the organization that Acura is going away from the "safe", Lexus-like cars for the masses, and heading for the performance side of the market. Is this a smart move on their behalf? With the new TL type-S likely to approach 39-40k, the RDX touching on 38k, the RL pegging 50k and the new MDX will likely hit 50k also with all of the options added to it, is Acura heading for trouble overpricing their vehicles? One of the main benefits for the Acura line-up is performance/luxury for less than the competition. Now with the prices that are on the horizon, does Acura have enough panache in the luxury auto industry to command these kind of prices across the line? Not to mention the TSX will undoubtedly go up in price when the turbo-4 from the RDX makes its' way into the car. Let's see. No flagship sedan. No flagship sport coupe. Prices that are the same now, and in some cases more than the competition. Looks like a tough road ahead. I hope not, for they certainly make a great product as long as the tranny holds up.
any thoughts from this anyone?" |

I think that while we can speculate all we want, we really don't know what the pricing will be. We'll probably find out within two weeks and can make educated decisions then.
("Probably" find out -- I hope there isn't something like they release details but not final pricing. Has anyone heard for sure that the 9/1 end-of-the-embargo will include pricing?) |

I did not pay any deposit for this 2007 MDX Sport. I have no idea of the 2007 MDX cost or my 04 trade in value. I would think this is more of a first refusal offer when the car comes in. I may like the looks or options of the MDX-Tech with NAVI better than the MDX-Sport with NAVI. Also very important to me is the color. Everything will be evaluated before buying, but it is nice to know one is waiting for me.
I paid $500 down in June 2000 for my 10 MDX with something like a first refusal of the car if I did not like it. It was SN 379 off the Assembly Line. I bought the first 01 and first 04 from this dealer.
My biggest problem will be my wife. She did not know about the 04 until I drove it home. It only took her about 1 day to get over it. |

Congrats on your new MDX order! I am sure you will be happy with the new car. Looks like the new car will be more of a driver's car with superior handling. I just hope that it's going to be just as practical as the current one.
BTW, thanks for being the ginnie pig to sort out all the first year production problem. I am patiently waiting to trade in my '05 for mid model refresh '09? MDX ;D |

Last week I tagged along with my brother to the Jeep dealer and they did'nt have a Cherokee SRT8 on the lot but said a refundable $500 would give him "first right of refusal" and would be here first of the month.
I'm convinced they do it partially to convince yourself "you own it" and to get you to come back in. They told us, "No problem, you'll get your money back, we'll get on the phone and call others and it will be off the lot by sunset". |

I agree, thus why I just bought the 06 MDX. All this will do is push the buyer to take a more serious look at Lexus. |

If Acura have more dealerships around our area it would be better. I see Lexus, Mercedes, Honda, Toyota and others but no Acura. I have to drive 45 minutes just to get near an Acura.
Is that what luxury is all about?
btw, I'm in Fremont, CA. :( |

Well, part of luxury is exclusivity. |

| I was at the dealership yesterday for the 15000mile service. They were launching the RDX . The vehicle looks somewhat like Murano. No exclusivity or individuality. I think Honda needs fresh minds in their R&D dept. The sticker price on couple of vehicles that I saw was around 37k. I know, I would put that kind of money for a 4 cylinder . |

| Was'nt the origin of Acura a few dealerships making a jacked up and pimped out Honda and calling it a "Sterling". Where are we going? Good question. I want to see a proactive company (Like the grassroots original), not a reactive company that placates to market wants and likes. |

Kinda sad. Motor Trend artical said the 280hp RAV4 was more responsive. 0-30 was 2.2 sec and RSX was 2.9 |

| If I am not mistaken, the RDX won the comparison test between the RAV4 and CX7. You guys have to stop knocking the RDX until you'd driven it. The car is plenty fast for a SUV and outhandle most if not all SUV's out there. Feature for feature, the RDX is in the cheaper end of the luxury small SUV market. |

I found that comparison to be a slap in the face to Acura. The Rav4 and CX7 are not in the same league as the RDX. It should have been compared to the X3.
