First off, let me say that this dealer has been okay in the past (however, I have never checked up on the work they have done).

Okay, So last month I took my car in b/c the CEL and VTM lights were on (figured it was the EGR AGAIN). Well, the code was a missfire. They diagnosed the problem as bad coils on the front bank. I asked them if they tested the coils to make sure they were bad (resistance tested), they said yes, they are bad. I also asked if they pulled the spark plugs to make sure they were ok (since the car had ~85k miles). They said they did and they were fine.

Fast forward to this past weekend. The CEL and VTM lights came back on. Took it to the dealer and they said missfire again. I said, I already paid you guys to fix this problem. Uggh... they wanted to do a BG clean out (I think it is the same thing as Seafoam).. I declined all the work except an oil change and tranny change.

So, I leave work early and stop by the parts store and pick up a can of seafoam and some NGK iridium plugs.

I seafoam the engine and then pull the plugs. GUESS WHAT, they never checked the plugs. The plugs were beyond toast. Electrodes were burnt off. Uggh.. I changed them all out and the car runs great again.

Thanks a bunch Acura dealer

I guess I will need to check on any work they do for me. Maybe, I will just do my own work after they diagnose the problem for me for free

Did you confront the service manager? I'd bring those plugs in and have a little sit down!

I'd think that if a dealer is going to go through the trouble to pull the plugs to "check them" you might as well have them put new ones in while they're at it. Same labor involved (besides gapping the new ones, if they aren't already gapped).

But, that's no excuse for the dealer to lie about services rendered. That's very disappointing to hear, even though we all know it does go on.
Hopefully you can work it out with the dealer for some free service coupons or something.

perhaps you can post some pics of the "burnt" plugs, because beleive it or not worn, but perfectly normal platinum plugs will look like the electrode is burnt out.

all i am saying is post a pic and we can see if they are ok or not

Sounds like a weird dealer to begin with - what dealer wouldn't say, "Your plug were shot, we replaced them and it cost you $900 for the work."

ehh, no need. Of course they plugs were black; however, I am talking about the actual electrode being burnt. Comparing a new plug to a burnt one you can tell that the burnt one has a little nub for an electrode (I could use a screw driver to gap them)

Why isn't someone asking the name of the dealer. This is where that name should be posted until the dealer gives you your money back, and then you can post that the made good.

WHO IS THE DEALER???????????
