okay, i know there's a polarized opinions on brake performances on the X. but i am in half way in buying an upgrade kit for my 03 MDX. but before doing that, i want to know if there's possible problems/outcomes that will violate the safety of the MDX, eg. VSA, ABS, etc... which are extremely important safety feature.

thanx so much!

Make sure stock wheels will go over the bigger brakes.

I'm thinking of doing big brakes too, but have not dome much research yet.

if the brake kit only involves the front then it may throw off the brake balance, the fron will do more of the brake than was originally intended.

i would get a kit that does the front and rear, and one that has been tested to be safe.

i would also check out replacements parts too so down the road when the pads wear out you know you can get them and you know you can afford them.

Who makes an off the shelf big-brake kit? Sounds cool. What's your payload? A 7000lb boat? The factory disks are about 12" in diameter.

You do not say what you want to do. Change size of rotors, change cylinders/pads? ????

i approached to one of the local brakes store and enquired any possible brake upgrades available for MDX. they said there's currently no kits available, however they can custom made a set for me using http://www.winnerpower.com.tw/ proudcts (calipers, pads, brake lines).
however there's limited info available on the net. that said, i will be the first MDX with their brake kits... still a bit worry on the durability of the kit....

Worry and brakes are two words that should not be too close!

You want to do the following:

1. Increase rotor mass
2. Slightly increase pad area
3. Keep the volume of the pistons in the new calipers close to the stock size (if replacing only the front) OR keep the ratio front to rear close.
4. Do not drastically increase the piston volume overall as the master cylinder will then need to drive more fluid and the pedal will feel much less precise.

If you do all these things the impact on ABS, et will be minimal.

I personally would be hesitant to undertake this unless I wanted to invest the time to market BBKs to MDX drivers. There is a good bit of R&D to come up with a safe and effective system...

Oh, feel free to use slots OR holes in those larger rotors. :)

I have made some rather rapid stops in my 2004 MDX and am completely happy with the performance.
