Anyone know the % window tint on the '06 MDX? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I have a new 2006 MDX and I noticed the front two windows either have no window tint or very little. Somewhere in the manual or documentation I read the reason for not tinting these two windows was that it may interfere with receiving the GPS signal for the Navigation system.

So my question is - what experiences do you have with front window tint, what % tint, etc.

Does anyone know the % tint on the back windows from the factory? Looks a little dark to me. I have the Sage Brush Pearl, don't know if the tint is color coded to the paint.

Thanks.

No, it's just many states have laws prohibiting tinting of the front driver side and passenger side windows. This doesn't mean people don't do it. But I have heard of people being pulled over and ticketed for improper percentages.

Go to this site for the law in your state.

The antenna for the GPS is located in the dash just under the middle of the windshield and since you don't tint the windshield anyway there is no issue. Not that I'm sure there would be one even if you did.

Someone else will chime in on the other questions or a search will definitely yield the numbers you are looking for. This has been discussed here in the past.

so what if , someone who has a tint of more than 35% (which is legal is his home state) travels to another state on a vacation . Does he get pulled over by the cops in that state for not complying with their law ?

Good question. I don't know the answer for sure. But my gut says if you are a transient and show proof of registration in another state, you would think you would be fine. Maybe someone with experience can chime in.

Mines 20% on front.

I got 20% up front now. From the inside looking out, the shades don't jive. I shopped the tint shops and they said, to do it right, I had to strip the 20% off the front and go with a balanced lower % on all the other windows to color balance and bump the fronts to a higher reflective value (darker) to protect the interior up front. Looks like a $300+ for a perfect job.

FWIW, I believe the factory tint on the back/rears is around 18%.

Thanks for the FWIW. Now, is 20% darker or lighter than 18%? This is actually a serious question. I don't know if it expesses blocking or passing of light.

The percentage is the amount of light allowed to pass through. the lower, the darker. However, there are several color shades of gray and some lean toward the amber. Here's an interesting site outlining all the states tint laws.
