| I have a 2003 MDX and cant get the fuel door open. The latch stays in the up position, and the door is not opening. Is there another release? Any suggestions? |

| Tremendous help, thanks a bunch. So you think I should send it in for service, before I run out of gas? Wow, I would have thought there might be something I could of done on the driveway. |

| have someone hold the gas door release up while you take a butterknife or something similar and see if you can gently pry it open. |

| It's times like these when I am glad I part with that $70 for the service manual. |

Yeah, there is. But since it was your first post, I couldn't tell if you were the kind to ask "My car is on fire in the driveway! What should I do?" and then argue with the responders who say "call 911?"
I have a vague memory that there is an emergency fuel door release lever. If there is, it would probably be behind the panel in the drivers side rear. This is where the jack is stored.
I would advise to read the owners manual, searching for this issue.
And don't forget you have to get all the way to the dealer on the last gas.

The two of you are absolutely hilarious together! Do you go to the restroom at the same time? Thanks to those of you with the helpful information. This web page seems to be very useful. I have picked up a lot of great information from other posts. To have over 100 viewers and come up with help like "I am glad I paid the $70 on the service manual" and "Take it in for service" "before you run out of gas" is just mind blowing, its super genius. I should have consulted with people like you before I bought the car. Maybe you guys could even help people with bigger issues in life, like which color interior to select.
The little dancing smiley faces are just the icing on cake. |

Then you would have the service manual and not need our help now wouldn't you? It wasn't meant as a smart remark. I always recommend purchasing the service manual when you buy a vehicle, it is so cheap it usually pays for itself the first time you have something go wrong. I don't have a 2003 manual, otherwise I would have posted whatever I could have to help you. |

Haven't seen this much razzing in a while.
Remove the opener knob by sliding it off towards the front of the vehicle. Remove the front door sill trim by pulling up. There are 5 clips holding it down, 2 towards the front, 2 towards the back and 1 in the middle. Take care when lifting up on the sill or you'll have to pay a visit to a parts place to replace the clips. You should now be able to see if the cable is properly connected to the opener. If it is connected you will probably need the cable replaced either by you or the dealer. You may find it easier to work on if you remove the opener entirely. It is held down by one bolt just under the carpet at the front end of the opener.
Congratulations on hanging in there!! I just hope you haven't run out of gas yet.
Oh, and here's the icing ====> ;) |

We probably should add these cautions from the service manual:
"SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS components location... Also review the precautions and procedures... before performing repairs or service".
I'm guessing you took your vehicle to the dealer. If you're waiting for a good day to work on the cable, please don't blow yourself up with an airbag. |

Check You Out. At least there are a few people out there that actually care about something other than air damns, spoilers and ebony interior ( ......). Thanks for the instructive help. 200 viewers and I got a couple, thanks. The vehicle is in the shop as we speak ( little advice coming) and everything is cool. The cable has been replaced and apparently there is no manual pull. You would know this if you bought the 2003 or 2004 manual (.....)
A bit of a warning, if you are in California and need help do not go to Acura 101 in Calabasas. Been there 3 times and hate them.
Also, if you are one of those few (........ that need help) go ahead and post, I will help if I can and I am sure that someone else will when possible. Until then, if more ice is required in hell I will be happy to help, just don't eat it because it will be yellow.
The icing is ...............!
To the few that helped, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
I am sorry that some of us think that our mid line vehicle is worthy of treating people like this.
The MDX was under warranty and all was fixed, cable for fuel door, air vents, cup holder and starter, at no cost. Any body want to help with the gas payment?

I believe that you will find that the very first post after your initial request was for you to "take it in and have it repaired". Basically that is what warranty is for. It was actually the best advice that you received.
As far as the rest of your ranting.........[ADMIN EDIT --- Watch your language] |

Wow, check you guys out! Over 400 views and 2 or 3 helpful people. Thanks for the info. The vehicle went in for service and the cable was replaced. Vent tabs for the air conditioner, center cupholder and starter were also replaced under warranty.
My MDX is just an insignificant mid line vehicle that gets my family from point A to point B. It is certainly not worthy of all the hype that some of you are giving it. Make sure you spend more time worrying about air damns, spoilers and mud flaps and less time not helping people. Silly little after market parts bought from some Joe, do not make your vehicle more than what it really is.
Good luck with that ego! |

OK.....then why did YOU buy one?
Or, better yet, do you REALLY own one??

| I bought one because it was the best value for a mid line family vehicle. Thats what it is nothing more, no matter what cheesey plastic parts you add. As far as being a pain, I wish I could be so much more for you. |

Actually the best value would have been the Honda Pilot by far. But you must have got caught up in the luxury vehicle hype....
Good luck with your X! |
