Hey guys this is my first post on this forum. About 4 months ago I bought my wife an 02 MDX (before I found this forum). Our mdx has the notorious hesitation at about 40mph, I've taken it in twice for that. The last time they just replaced the EGR value....Its still there. It acted OK for about a month but now it starting to act sluggish as well as this tank of gas is getting very poor gas milage, the gas light came on at 230miles. I told my wife I would drive it this morning and after a 45min drive to work I parked in the parking lot and revved the engine a little. At about 5000-5200 RPMs (not redline) the engine starts to miss.

Whats going on here????

Hi, welcome to the family.....

EGR replaced, hmmm. Did you get any error code? Normally if the engine misfire, the computer will record the event.

What's the mileage on the car?

What I can think of are:

1. They didn't replace the EGR but just told you so. Unlikely but possible.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel injector clogged.

On the last tank of gas I ran a fuel injector cleaner through the system followed up by a tank of premium. I just gone done driving it to lunch and it feels a little more peppy (maybe revving it up cleaned out the clogged injector). Also I was able to make the transmition hesitation appear at will when I was cruising at 47-48 mph in D5, the hesitation occurred when you slightly press the gas pedal when at this constant speed.

Is there a rev limiter at 5k while the vehicle is in park?

Why the engine doesn't redline until 6k.

yes, there is a limiter, just like on the tl's. It's there so you don't damage you engine.

Didn't your momma tell you never to rev an unloaded engine to near its max?
