I have a 2003 MDX. Recently the navigation DVD player is making clicking noise most of the time. I am pretty sure it is coming from the navigation DVD player (under the front passenger seat). However the navigation system itself is working fine with no problem at all.
The noise sounds like the disc is spinning and braking but I m not 100% sure. The clicking noise comes and goes regardless whether the navigation system is in use or not. Sometime the clickings can go on for over a minute and sometime it lasts for a few seconds. The clickings will stop for a few seconds and then continue again. It is very annoying and I suspect the DVD player may be starting to fail.
I tried removing the navigation DVD disc and I can still hear the clicking noise but it is alot less in audible sound level. One thing I noticed is the DVD player is very warm when I touched it, regardless if the navigation is in use or not.
Unfortunately I have 54K miles on the car so it is out of warranty.
I checked the forum and am not able to find anyone reporting such a problem, except for one but it was questionable if that clicking noise was coming from the nav. DVD palyer.
I like to disconnect the cable to the navigation dvd player to confirm for sure if the clicking noise is from the DVD player( I am sure it is). But I am not able to have access to the cable. Anyone knows how to disconnect the dvd player cable or at least the power to the player?
If it is indeed the DVD player problem, is it easy to replace the player by myself without removing the seat? Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement DVD player?

I did more checking and now confirmed it is NOT the navigation DVD player that is making the clicking noise. I was able to access the back of the dvd player and disconnect all the cables. With the cables disconnected the clicking noise is still there. It sounded like the noise is coming from behind the glove compartment.
I did narrow it down to the air-con or the fan. I think it may be the air-con. I am able to stop the clicking noise by pressing the OFF button that is right above the navigation LCD display. This OFF button turns off the air-con and the fan as I understand it.
Now I am trying to see if the noise is caused by the air-con or the fan. I tried this morning with the air-con off and kept the fan on. So far I have not hear any clicking noise.
I checked previous posts and someone suggested the clicking noise can be due to some aircon actuators kicking in and out. It is possible this is the case with me.
Anyone knows where are the air-con actuators located?
Thanks. |
