I have an 2004 Aspen White MDX....that was damaged by the Acura Dealer when in for service. Drivers side door was dented in (about 3 inches) directly on the crease on the lower portion of the door.
a few questions....
Is it common practice (acceptable) to re-skin the door or bang out and fill the door?
Has anyone had their Aspen White repainted? and did it match?
Thanks

For what you are describing the most common repair is "paintless dent repair." That is if the paint is not damaged.
I just had my black 2004 repaired from a dent on the upper crease approximately the size you describe. I now cannot see the location of the old dent. The dent was right in the door crease.
Nobody these days is going to reskin a door. Just too expensive. They would replace the door if required.

If the dent can't be fixed, then the door is reskined and not replaced. They use the same internal components and interior parts on the new skin. |

Guys,
Thanks for your responses. The paint was damaged so dentless is out of the question. I have learned they are filling in the dent vs reskining / replacing the door. Probably because they know they cant match the paint.
Now I'm really not happy.

| It is very common to pull the dent, fill, and repaint for this type of repair. They usually have to feather into the adjoining panels/doors so that any paint mismatch will be less noticeable. |

| I do bodywork for a living and the best thing to do in this case is to repair the door instead of skinning the door. I would always choose a repair vs skinning in most instances due to breaking factory seams. Its is difficult to match the original seam sealer that goes around the back of the door where the skin and door shell meet. It is a normal precedure to blend the adjoining panels esp being white"odly enough being one of the hardest colors to match" If the job is dont right the door will have a very small amount of filler. A good body man would pull the dent making or simply getting behind the dent and dollying it out making it flat as possible before filling the dent. Not all bodyshops do this the lazy bastards that give some of us a bad name will just stuff it full of bondo. So if you have anymore questions let me know and I hope this helped ya out. |

I also have an autobody background, and also agree with dansmdx. Reskinning a door for 3 inches of damage is excessive.
Pearls are hard to match for sure. My Midnight Blue Pearl required paintwork once, and I grilled the manager of the bodyshop about how importnat paint match was to me. He said "no problem".
When it was done, the match was very good. I could tell they was a bit more pearl of metal flake in it.................but I would bet 99 out of 100 would not have known the difference. |

| Just had the rear tailgate of my almost-new Aspen White 06 repainted -- I'm no autobody shop expert, but I absolutely can't tell the difference in the part that's been repainted from the original. I suspect it's all in the talent of the doing the job. |

Thanks for all of the feedback. They did use filler....not the best job as you can see it isnt as straight as the rest of the door. They blended into the front fender and back door, but the color is too white....so........I worked out a deal. They bought back the 04 MDX and I got a great deal on a new 06 Aspen White.. I thought about the 07, but I must admit it looks ugly to me.
