Many many problems - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hi, recently my MDX has been vibrating very badly anytime I go over 55 mph.

Over the weekend, I had my rotors resurfaced and new brake pads installed since they were warped and I thought that was the problem. However, the problem still existed afterwards, so I dropped it off at the dealership for them to take a look at it.

The dealership says that these parts are bad:

EGR valve (it was a recall but car is over 80k)
O2 sensor at exhaust
2 shocks
1 front engine mount
1 side engine mount

total to fix all this including labor is: $1900.

Having this many problems is quite ridiculous. I have noticed that a few people have mentioned that their front engine mount has gone bad and needs replacement, but there doesn't seem to a TSB on this correct?

So here's my questions:

1. Is this a fair price to have all these items replaced?

2. What could I DIY easily? I'm sure an O2 sensor is quite easy to replace, the EGR should be a bolt off / bolt on job, and I do have a spring compressor for the shocks. I would assume the side mount is relatively easy to replace as well.

3. Is the dealership lying about what's wrong, or are these problems people have had with their MDX (especially the shocks)?

Here's information about my X which might help:

2001 MDX w/ 100k purchased brand new
had transmission replaced due to recall

Sorry for the long post, and any responses would be appreciated.

I am in that situation as you. My 01 with 50k need the front and rt side mount. The dealer offered the parts for free. A $150 value but the labor alone is $370. I have called Acura relations but they think the parts are enough. I told them that the labor free would be a better deal. They also explained that at TSB was not a claim of defective parts but a way for them to explain to the dealer how to fix an issue. I have asked them to give it to a district manager for review. In other words no liability!

Here is the TSB released 06-2006

Hm... this TSB talks about vibrations idle and harsh shifting, I'm sure is related to high speed vibrations, but I wonder what the likeliness of having Acura taking care of this is going to be since I already have 100k miles on the car. They might claim the engine mounts needing to be replaced due to "wear and tear" even though engine mounts usually last more than 100k miles.

From prior threads on the subject I'm sure it will be treated as wear & tear.

If I were in your shoes I'd take it to another mechanic (non-dealer) and ask them to look it over for you. It will be interesting to see what components they recommend replacing and at what cost.

A second opinion can't hurt. Especially when your looking at shelling out some big bucks.

I'm definitely going to do that. I may end up replacing the parts myself since the side mount shouldn't be hard to replace along with o2 sensor and EGR valve. The only thing that I might have problems changing from what I've read on the forums is the front engine mount. I hope it'll cost less than $1900 to fix the car.
