Hi, I'm considering the purchase of a 2001 MDX and was wondering what the average cost people have paid for the 90,000 maintenance. My other Honda's have had the timing belt changed (with the water pump and other stuff due to the extensive labor of getting to the timing belt) Any estimates?
Also, are MDX's costly to fix/maintain relative to say... an Accord (Low) or a BMW (High)? |

The cost of maintenance of all foreign vehicles tends t be high compared to domestic. I am sure there are exceptions to this but this seems to be the general rule. Acura will be somewhat higher than others.

If you will be depending on the dealer for all maintenance. It will get costly, especially going 90k miles and beyond.
If you are a DIY, however, these are pretty easy to do all the normal fliud changes and basic maintenance.
The cars are generally very reliable with the exception of the Tranny on older model.
Two areas you should be aware of are:
1) TRANNY ISSUES - 01 and 02 models are susseptible to bad trannies which makes many shy away from them unless there is an extended warranty....this would not be a DIY repair
2) T-BELT AT 105K- some have done this on their own, but I believe this would be coming up for you in another 15k miles. I would guess that the dealer would hit you for areound $500-$800 for this depending upon what other maintenance they tried to get you to buy. |

Thanks a lot. My Hondas get the timing belt done @ 90,000. I didn't realize the MDX is 105,000. $500-$800 is reasonable and comparable to my Accords. Recently my buddy needed something done to the turbo in his Audi and the dealer quoted him $2000. That was my concern. That a timing belt job would be in the thousands rather than hundreds.
Thanks all. |
